Mythology in the Line

This is a general question regarding going back in your tree to where real people are now mythological figures. How is the way to handle such information? Do you keep it in your line, do you keep in your line and label it as mythology, do you omit it from your line...what to do? I am back to mythological Trojans like Zeus for instance. Noah was mentioned, too, not that he is mythological. This is very interesting to me , but is it real? How did it get there? I'm a novice at this.

Hi
I don't have any answers for you but it is a very interesting question you pose. There are different ways people approach genealogy. Some like to 'collect' as many people in their tree as possible and this includes, as you've found, tenuous links to many weird and wonderful, and often fictitious, historical figures. Other people are more interested in the social history of their family over the past few hundred years and concentrate on finding out about their lives. Personally, I think when you go so far back it can become meaningless. How you interpret your links to Zeus or Noah does to an extent depends on your belief system. For example, the head of the 'family tree' for English kings is God. The kings power is divine and so a link had to be created between the two in order to justify and maintain the right to rule. For me it's a convenient way of maintaining the power of the church and state and keeping people in line. Sorry, I don't have any answers for you.
Regards
Julie

There's no way to prove a link back to Zeus (a Greek God) or Noah (an early Old Testament figure). I would not put in such links myself. There's no reliable documentary evidence that they even existed. So I, personally, would not include them.

I have Zeus too, lol. A lot of royalty back then claimed descent from such figures, so they just kind of got accepted into their lineage. Obviously this is not their actual lineage, but their legendary lineage. With most their actual lineage is unknown. I keep them in there just for fun. My tree is private, so it's not like it's going to throw anyone off.
