Feeling at home where I had never been
I walked on to the parade ground of Fort Griffin Texas as a Indian War reenactor. As we walked I told my husband I feel like I belong here. But having done genealogy for years I knew I had no ties to this place. But for several years we were there every month and it was more and more that I had the feeling of being where I belonged. Then I started doing research on my husbands families. Well the day I found out he had an acestor named Katherine LeBleu I thought I know her. Well guess what I found out she had lived at Fort Griffin. So now I know why I was feeling at home.

Re: Feeling at home where I had never been
If his ancestor lived there, why would you feel anything? You have none of her blood....?

Re: Feeling at home where I had never been
Also I have a real strong connection to Big Nose Kate who was the woman that lived with Doc Holiday. And she had a saloon at Fort Griffin too called the Bee Hive. So I can't explain it I only know what I feel

Re: Feeling at home where I had never been
Maybe you were these women in previous lives. It is believed by many cultures that we keep coming back to the same families. You may be your granchild's wife for instance in the next life. It is also why you sometimes have a distinct love or hate for someone when you first meet them, because you have had a relationship of some sort with them in a previous life. Hope this helps a bit. Re: Feeling at home where I had never been
I have done the exact same thing. Went to Mt. Airy NC and loved it so much wanted to move there. This was back in the 60s I kept saying when I graduate I am going to live her. Then after Graduation went to Mt. Airy and Hillsville VA to visit.
I cannot describe the feeling I had but it was like you said coming home. This was in 1973. I started my family history in 1979 and guess where one of the first places was I had to research. Hillsville VA and Mt Airy NC. I was so shocked and scared at first it almost made me want to quit. But instead I was more determined.
Now when we are traveling and that feeling comes over me I immediately take out the notebook I keep in my purse and write down where we are in case I come across it in my research.
My family also believes you keep coming back. I sure hope I am on my last trip. Im tired now.

Re: Feeling at home where I had never been
Also recently I was told to pray to the ancestor who was my brick wall and ask them to help me find what I needed to research them. Within two days I had a break. Out of the clear blue I got an email answer from her cemetery that included the address she lived in when she died so for the heck of it I did a google search on the address and 1937 the year she died and wham there was her house in an online article called the forgotten new york and its a walking tour around brooklyn and other ny areas. He even did a walk through her cemetery and took pictures. I was in heaven I sat here and cried. She died before I was born and my father was only a boy when she died so it was a real honor and I felt like I was meeting her for the first time.
