Australian experiences...
After reading every postings on this, I went "wow". I sometimes have some sort of experiences, which only occurs when I don't try too hard in finding the data I needed. I remembered when I was only 17 (I was into genealogy since I was 11 years old), my mum and I was driving out in the countryside for my school photography course. I was taking photos around the old houses, churches, etc and I happened to asked mum to stop by at a church (Cobbitty - about 1 and half hour southwest from Sydney). There I liked the old church and loved the surroundings, such a lovely valley and country town - we were walking around the church and realised there were graves at the back and side of church. So to stretch our legs, we were looking at those graves, commented about how short or long those lives were, I suddenly saw "Pallier, Joseph". Hey I asked my mum isnt that familiar name? My mum confirmed as she have been helping me out with genealogy. Pallier have been the most difficult family to trace to this date - my grandmother (who is still alive - passing her 80th now) kept telling me that they used to live somewhere south but never knew exactly where. So with this I was able to ask my great uncle more questions before he passed away a couple of years ago. The surname, Pallier was originally De Pallier but over the time, the De part was dropped - from France then to England and now into Australia. Still on Pallier - I have been searching for Pallier on the internet but with no luck as I felt that I am the only one who is searching for this family around the world! Today I went to my local library which has a family history section, and looked into a book and found a entry on Pallier from a person in Western Australia! The only one entry! I plans to write to this person and find out more.
I felt that there are 'people' out there helping us go to the right documents, but sometimes I think they are having fun putting us thru the longest, rough road first before finding the 'gold'!
I do hope there will be more coming for me especially on my other family surnames!
Keep this postings coming in! We need those to realise something we might have not noticed back then but hoping for a second chance at it.
Cheers, Darlene from Down Under.

Hi Darlene... I think that we have corresponded through a convict site in Australia re George Thornton; you have the mayor we don't. I have just stumbled onto this site and note that you list Waterworth as an interest, well I am researching Joseph & Sarah (Owen) Waterworth, Haydock & Leigh in Lancashire c 1850-1926. How do I get in touch with you. Yours in hope .......Jenny

Re: Australian experiences...
hi Darlene. Serendipity! I am researching my family roots, the family name being Waterworth. My GG G/F James Waterworth married Mary Ann Pallier on 10th May 1854 at St Pauls Cobbity. Mary Ann's parents and her sister are buried in the churchyard there. The family emigrated from Soho in London. Please email me on 2wartz@tpg.com.au for any further details Regards Eric Waterworth

Re: Australian experiences...
Darlene, I am very familiar with those same feelings. Ever since, I was a little girl, I loved the plantation home that was situated next door to my Victorian styled home, and every chance I had I would love to go and visit the neighbors, years later when I got into research and genealogy, I found out that the plantation home that I love to visit and still love to visit and have always felt like I have come home when I was visiting over there originally was built by a 5 great grandmother of mine and I live on a portion of her original Spanish land grant of 2,000 arpents of land, which my 5th grandmother had made into a cotton and indigo plantation. I think sometimes the sprits guide us without us knowning it. Then again, years later doing research for this author, who had a lead to uncover the secret idenity of a famous pirate, who operated in the Gulf of Mexico circa 1770's to 1813, and it seems like whenever I was in a courthouse or library and a certain inner voice spoke in my head, of course, telepathically saying pull this record, look up this civil suit, look up the conveyance, mortgage, or succession, or whatever the case may be and I always found valuable information which clarified the identiy of the person from all the information that had been termed legend and this information confirms the idenity of the pirate, which was truly a big import export slave trading business and the charm and brilliant business expertise of the brother of the famous Gulf Coast pirate, who was the manager, comes out strong. Then I got this urge to research all the pirate's family and more and more leads turn up that i know in my heart that the pirate was just a figurehead to make everyone think that a lone person operated this adventure, when in reality it was a large thriving business, I have to say likens to one of our large global corporations. I think from all my experiences that the sprits guide us to reveal the truth and we feel close to certain sprits or we may come back from the dead and relive our lives in other time epochs to attain for our wrong doing in a previouis life
