Ancestor Hung for Murder

There's a family story about a Goulding who, after emigrating from England to Southampton, Ontario, changed his name to Golden to escape the shame of a family member being hung for Murder. The only information I have is that this imigrant's wife was called Ann Waters, and they had a son Robert (who was my ancestor).
I've been trying unsucessfully to find information on the murderer.
Does anyone know anything about this (and I know its a long shot) or can anyone recommend any sources?

Looking for the country of origin of the Woompus (Also spelled Whoompus...)which is a fictional mythical and/or legandary "Boogeyman" type of character/creature found in various author's works.

Looking for the country of origin, and/or any information related to a fictional, mythical or legendary "creature" referred to by various authors (Usually in children's books) as the Woompus. Akin, perhaps, to a "Boogeyman"-type of thing???

Other spellings sometimes used are: Whoompus; Whampus; and Wampus.
