BERNARD WILLKOMM
Bernard A. Willkomm, 81, Glen Haven, died Monday, April 14, 2003 at the Lancaster Care Center after a short battle with cancer. He was born Aug. 20, 1921, in Cassville township, WI, the son of Henry and Katie (Kirschbaum) Willkomm. On July 12, 1939, he married Janis Jamison in Waukon, IA. She preceded him in death on March 22, 1998. Bernie served in the 45th Infantry Division of the United States Army during World War II. He owned Chevrolet dealerships in Cassville and Platteville. He served as mayor of Kimmswick, MO in the early 1980's. Bernie was a member and chaplain of the Abraham Hickok Wetmore American Legion Post #148 of Bloomington and the Donaldson Kelly Kirschbaum VFW Post #7080 in Cassville. Surviving are six children, Nancy (Jim) Nalepinski, Lancaster; Bruce (Carole) Willkomm, Brown Deer; Wayne Willkomm, Glen Haven; David (Olga) Willkomm, Gainesville, FL; Jeffrey (J. P.) Willkomm, Minneapolis; and Shawn Willkomm, Glen Haven; eight grandchildren, Andrew and Julie Nalepinski; Wendy Bromley; Todd, Laura, David Jr., and Vanessa Willkomm; and Josh Grimes; three great-granddaughters, Claire Bromley, Grayson Funk, and Caiden Willkomm; and a sister, Colleen Glennon, Minnetonka, MN. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janis; his parents; a sister, Luella Trierweiler; and two brothers, Francis and Lawrence Willkomm. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, at 10 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Bloomington with the Reverend Susan Brown officiating. Private family burial, with military honors will be in Beetown Cemetery, Beetown township. Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the Martin Page Funeral Home in Bloomington, and on Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church.
