SAYAS Family New Mexico Texas
Looking for the American Indian or Mexican Indian connection to the SAYAS family. Earliest family information places them in either Texas or New Mexico.

My grandmother Lilia Elizondo Sayas is the daughter of Teodora Sayas and Procopio Elizondo of San Benito Texas. Teodora and Procopio were married in Cameron County TX in 1898. She was born in San Benito and he was born in Mexico. My grandmother told me her father was a general in the Mexican Army. They had quite a number of children, Lilia, Lule (Lillian), Rene, Manuel (Manny or Meno (nickname)), Ricardo (Richard), Viola, Cuquita. I believe there could be one more but I am not sure of the name. I know that Teodora (Lolita) was mexican and italian. If you have anything to share please email me.
I hope these Sayas are yours too. :-)

Gina:
Thanks for responding to my query regarding the Sayas surname. My apologies for not responding sooner; but we were on vacation. Do you know which, if any, of the children of Teodora and Procopio Sayas relocated to Colorado and/or Illinois? I'm still trying to see if I can make a connection to the Sayas family that I am researching.
Thanks,
Tom Cuthbert

Dear Tom,
I really am not sure. I know Procopio Elizondo was from Tampico or lived there for a long time. Teodora Sayas had family in Brownsville TX for a long long time. I will check on it though and get back to you.
Good luck on your search.
