HELP. I can't find any info on my great grandparents. They are on the 1930 census in PA. John Ciko lived in Girard, Penna. married Mary Simco of Ohio. The census lists both as being from Czechoslovakia. Their primary language was slovak. John emmigrated in 1906. And Mary in 1904. I searched Ellis Island records, but did not find a Ciko that arrived in that year. Any info. Please help.

Did you try with www.stevemorse.org to locate the EI manifest? Did you try all the different spellings that I suggested on the Czech board?
It is possible that they could have passed thru other port.
Do keep in mind that your ancestors name is not Mary but Maria and not John but maybe Janos, Jan or Johan on the manifest.

Can you locate their marriage certificate from church? Any obituary?

Thank you. I saw the stevemorse site the other night, but did not have a chance to try it yet. I'm going to try all of the spellings. The only other port they would've come into would be Philadelphia, maybe. I'm going to try to track down an obit or church record, my grandmother is not much help. Whatever she remembers she doesn't seem to think is important enough to share. I'm working on this stuff from across country too, so it's slowing me down. Thanks for the info though

Sure would speed up things if your grandmother gave you something about the location of a town. Sometimes that helps in getting started. Does she remember a certain term that was used in the household? What about religion? Were they Greek Catholic?

My father's aunt and uncle was named John and Mary Ciko. Mary would be my great aunt, and lived in Pittsburg, Pa area.
It would be great to help find my relatives.

I forgot to tell you. My father told me that we were Greek Catholic. Their is a cemetary aroung Crossingville, Pa yhat his mother and some other ancestors are layed to rest. Also, when Dad's Mother died, Dad's youngest brother John was sent to Pittsburgh to be raised by his aunt Mary. We are related to the Cikos in both Pittsburgh and Erie, Pa. And also to the Simcos.

I knew a John Ciko, who was an attorney with the H. J. Heinz company in Pittsburgh during the 1980's. He would have been born sometime in the late 1930's I think, in that he was a few years older than I. I was an environmental manager with Star-Kist Foods, which was a subsidiary of Heinz. John Ciko and I had many dealings over the 1980s.
