Any Britt families left in New York?
Am still trying to find any Irish Britt families who came over from Ireland and before that, England. I have a Charles Britt who married a Georgia Ann Herdman in my line. They married in late 1800's, had my grandfather, Albert Britt in April of 1896. Do these names sound familiar to anyone? Thanks and good luck in all your searches! Debbie

Re: Any Britt families left in New York?
Hi Debbie, The BRITTS are alive and well and living in New York! I went to www.google.com and typed in White Pages, New York. Once on the site I checked for BRITT first in Brooklyn - 56 are listed. New York City gave 27 I then tried just New York State and the result was TOO MANY names. Good Luck. June Wales. UK

Re: Any Britt families left in New York?
My grandfather was John Francis Britt, born in the late 1980's, I think. He was a NYC Fireman and was orphaned at a young age. Because of that, we have nothing to go on. I think his father was a fireman too. His wife was Annie Simpson.

Re: Any Britt families left in New York?
Hi, I found a John Francis Brett, among other Bretts and Britts and he was born Oct 1867 in Brooklyn, married to a Marietta F. Hood, in Nov of 1891, then the other John Francis Brett, his son, born May 1893 in Brooklyn, married to a Anna Maria Metz, 1915, also in Brooklyn, NY. Does any of this help? I'll keep looking. Deb

Re: Any Britt families left in New York?
Hi again Diane, The info I got on John Francis Brett was from Familysearch.org. It's awesome! What are your Britt lines that you came from? Mine are from a John Britt, Charles Wesley Britt, Charles again, and then my grandparents, Albert and Helen(Bornholz) Britt, who had my father, Robert Wesley in 1930. My father was the only one born in NJ, while all the others were born in NY and are of Irish decent...except my grandmother, who was German and Irish. Good luck and let me know if I can help in any way. Deb

Re: Any Britt families left in New York?
Thanks for the information. We do not know anything about the Britt's. It's a mystery, and that's why I am so curious. My father is Cornelius Francis and my grandfather is John Francis Britt, married to Annie Simpson. His father may have died when he was young. I'd like to know his wife's name and more about them. I do know my grandfather said he was Irish. I'll try looking more with the information you gave me.

Re: Any Britt families left in New York?
Hi Diane! I'm happy to say I found Cornelious F. Britt in the 1880 NY census. He was living in his father house, Dennis and Margaret Britt. He was 23 yrs old then and a widower...so young! He also had a brother and nephew, both named John Britt. Now, here's the part you were looking for. Cornelious was a fireman. The census place for source info was in Manhattan, NY, as they say, New York City-Greater, New York......(that's the 1880 census way)-smiles- Good luck, keep at it and let me know if this helped. I love doing this! Take care, Debbie

Re: Any Britt families left in New York?
This was easy. Heritage Quest 1910 census shows a NYC fireman named John F. Britt age 30 and wife Annie age 29 with children John 8, James 6, Anna 3 and Edward 6 months living with Annie's parents James and Patricia Simpson (with their children William, Jesse, Charles, Francis and George) in the 4 Ward of Queens County ( Supv. District No. 2, Enum. District 1272, Sheet 1351, 3A). Can not read the street name but the other street names on page A and B of the census sheet are Rose Avenue and Hanson Place. Maybe you can use those names to find the town. I'll go check 1920 census.
