Hello,

Does anyone have suggestions on how I could locate any Dutch Reform church records for the Cayuga County, NY area.

I believe this surname could be Dutch background.

Particularly searching for a Jeremiah Vangilder (unknown birth & unknown death) who seem to have lived in the Sempronius, Cayuga County area before 1800. He is listed in the 1800 Census, a mention is made a Vangilder family moved to the Niles, Cayuga Co., NY area about 1792.

My ancestor was Amelia M Raner B 1829 in NY. Her mother was a Hannah Vangilder who married a Joshua Raner. There is a possible Hannah (Vangilder) Raner living in Cayuga Co., NY born about 1800. She named one of her sons Jeremiah Raner.

Thanks for any suggestions,
Debbie Freeman

Hi Debbie!
I was wondering if you were ever able to locate any records for the Dutch Reformed Church in Cayuga County. I am also looking into the VanGuilder name. I have been looking into Jeremiah as a possible father for my 4th great grandfather, Eli A. (b. 1798 in Cayuga County).
There is also a Matthew VanGuilder, who was a Revolutionary War soldier, who received land in Sempronious Military Tract, which I am sure you know, includes Niles.
I haven't been able to locate any of the church records in the area, but I was curious to see if you had gotten anywhere with it.
Thanks! Cindy Gillispie

Hello. I'm looking for van guilders (various spellings) that might be associated with the Johnson, Coe, Johnston, Firkins, and Filkins families of Cayuga, Seneca, Wayne Counties in the 1830s. These people migrated to Warren, McDonough, and Knox County Illinois before 1840. Mack connections also apply through Wayne, Lewanee, and Oakland, MI. Because of the timing they may have had LDS connections.

Hi Debbie!
I wanted to let you know that in my search for my VanGuilder's, I found something on the Jeremiah you are looking at. His probate records can be found on familysearch.org.
New York, Probate Records, 1629-1971, County of Cayuga, Estate Papers 1799-1905 Box 4, Image 696 of 1193.
You should check a few pages back and forward, too. I have been trying to map out all of the VanGuilder's in the area, and only printed off the page that had a possible relative on it.
Happy Hunting!
