I'm trying to locate relatives of my grandfather Thomas Nemecek. He married my grandmother Margaret Vogeltanz in Nebraska around 1894. If anyone has any information on either of my grandparents relatives I would be very grateful. Thanks, Sharon

My cousin Doris (Hronik) Kohout and I are also looking for a Vogeltanz-Nemecek connection. We are first cousins through our mothers and our great-grandmother was Aloise Vogeltanz. There were five children born to Marie Vachal (B: March 18, 1842?; D: 1915) and Stepan Vogeltanz (B: March 30, 1840; D: 1921). Both are buried in the Wilber Czech Cemetery. As yet we do not have their marriage date. Their children were: Aloise, B: March 2nd or 3rd in 1866; D: December 12, 1933. She is my great-grandmother. Steve, B: February 12, 1868; D: June 14, 1952; Jan (John), B: September 27, 1871; D: ?; Now, here come the twins: Mary (Marie) and Anna (Marketa or Margret), B: March 27, 1874. Mary married Charlie Olexa while we only have the last name of Nemecek for Anna's husband. It sounds like his name was Thomas if all things fall into place! To finish part of this, Mary died July 15, 1945 and we have no death date for Anna. The fifth child was Frank J. who was born January 27, 1877 and died December 10, 1954. We have Charles Olexa and Mary Vogeltanz getting married March 16, 1892 in the town of Wilber, Saline County, Nebraska. Doris has two pictures of the sisters and their husbands and I have two different pictures of the same couples. In one picture of Thomas and Anna there is a small boy. We do not have a marriage date for Thomas and Anna, however, it is possible we will find it in Saline County. We'll keep looking and hope to hear from you soon.

Sorry I had such a short message to you yesterday but I have been looking for relatives for over a year and this is the first time I have received anything encouraging. Margaret and Thomas according to the obituaries were married in April of 1894. My grandmother(Margaret) died in December of 1943 and my grandfather died May of 1960 at the age of 96. They had 9 children Al, Winnie, Anna, Thomas, Mary, Frank, Gladys, Rose and Margaret (my mother).
All of my aunts and uncles have passed on except A. Rose and my mother are still living. Did they call your great-grandmother Louise? Gramma and Grampa moved to Montana but I do not know what year. All of their children with the exception of Al were born in Helena, Mt. I would really be interested to see the pictures you have of them. I would certainly be willing to pay for prints to be made. We came across some wonderful old photographs of gramma's family just recently in some of my Aunt Mary's things that were stored for many years. Again I'm very sorry I had not checked this message board alot earlier but we have a ranch and have been busy for the last month plus had company for 3 weeks. Will be waiting to hear from you soon.

Surnames: Vogeltanz, Klika
Vogeltanz and Montana ring bells in my family stories. My Grandmother Mary Vogeltanz Klika settled in the Denmark, Wisconsin area after arriving from Bohemia about 1882 with her family that included siblings Thomas, Mayme, Dorothy, and possibly a Joseph. Their father and mother are buried in the local church cemetery. I've been there and have photos of the markers. My father and aunt used to talk about uncles & aunts on the Vogeltanz side that moved to Montana. Could there be a connection? Have you run into any stories that go back to Wisconsin?

I also have Vachal and Vogeltanz relatives that married, I'm wondering if they are possibly some relation to your relatives. My great-great grandfather, Joseph Vachal (b. 1844 - d. 11-20-1920) married Mary Vogeltanz (b. 1843 - d. 12-11-1924), but I don't have a date for the marriage. They were from Uboci, Bohemia, and migrated to the U.S. and settled in Nebraska, before moving part of the family to North Dakota. They had 7 children: Barbara (b. 1868 - d. 1949), John, Joe, Louis, James (my great-grandfather), Mary, and Edward (b. 9-12-1888 - d. 10-8-1954). I don't know anything about either Joseph or Mary's parents or siblings. I wonder if your relatives are brothers and sisters to mine, possibly marrying up siblings in pairs. The years of there births are so close to each other. If you have any knowledge about any of this, I would be very interested in hearing from you.

Hi Brad,

I am Myles Dymacek in Lincoln, Nebraska. I read your posting and wanted you to know that I too, have the Vachal and Vogeltanz connection in my family tree. There are three Vachals in my tree, (Unknown)Vachal who married Sylvia Koranda, daughter of Joe and Frances (Cink) Koranda, born 5 May 1889 and died 4 March 1983. Second is Katherin Vachal, born in 1834 and died 2 February 1899 in Wilber, Saline County, Nebraska. The connection is through Marie/Mary Vachal, born 18 March 1841 in Bohemia and died 30 July 1915 in Wilber. She married Stepan Vogeltanz, born 30 Mar 1840 in Kouto, Bohemia and died 26 December 1921 in Wilber. Stepan and Marie/Mary had six children, their first was my Great Grandmother Aloise (Louise), born 3 March 1866. She married Matej Fictum, and their daughters were Mary, born 19 December 1890 and Katherine, born 19 May 1894. Katherine was my grandmother. She married Joseph Peter Koci and my mother Helen Louise Koci, the second of four children was born 9 December 1912, and married Myles W. Dymacek, Sr. I am their third child and my siblings are all deceased. If any of that halps you great. I have quite a number of entries in my tree and a very small part has been put on the internet by Robert Nohavec. If you wanted to see what there is on the internet, use Rootsweb and type in the name Myles Dymacek. My father's information will come up and from there you can see many of my mother's family. If you want more, e-mail me at mdymacek@neb.rr.com. If none of this is of value, I hope you find what you are looking for. From Lincoln, Myles

While reviewing some of my past posts I notice the Kohout name and thought you may be interested to know that I just had David "Kohout" in the Czech Republic do some research for me. Though he hasn't found MY Vogeltanz family yet, He located some of my GGfathers Klika's birth info. If you are looking for Kohout info he may be able to help and may even be family.
