I am searching to find any information about my father's side of the family. I have never known him and have only spoken to him once in my life. His name is William Bridges, but I've been told that at birth he was named Jonas Proudfoot, and then changed his name as an adult. The only other thing I know is that his mother's name was Alicia, and her middle name was possibly Lorena. I had always been told growing up that I was part native american (estimates ranged between 1/4 blood to 1/2 blood) and when I spoke to my father 8 years ago, he informed me that this was correct, I was 1/2 blood and the tribe was Shawnee. I know he lived in Oklahoma as a child, and he hinted that he'd grown up on a reservation. If anyone can shed any light on this, I'd greatly appreciate it. My sister and I know nothing about this side of our family, and we've always been very curious about our heritage and ancestors. The only other information I have is an approximate age for my father. He would be about 68 now. I believe he may have been born about 1943, but again, I really don't know. Can anyone help? Even if it's just to give a starting point to find info on my own, that would be appreciated. Thank you.
