Looking to connect with anyone who is doing genealogical and /or historical research for Cumberland House and Stanley Mission, Saskatchewan, or The Pas, Manitoba. Many Metis families from not only the Red River Settlement but also the Missouri country settled in this area. Cumberland House was settled in 1774 as a major Hudson's Bay Company inland post, and Stanley Mission was a post on the Churchill River where the oldest church in western Canada still stands (1854). There is a lot of historical documentation regarding Cumberland House and Stanley Mission and the Fur Trade, however, little genealogical research has been done up to this point. If you have any information regarding these families or any others in this area, please contact me through this list or privately at jleclair@sk.sympatico.ca
Thank you,
John Leclair
