First of all, there is no such thing as a full blood Chippewa. The Chippewa's are the Atlanteans from Atlantis. You need to read the story of atlantis and William W. Warrens 19th century book "History of the Ojibway people" to understand my point. You'll learn the truth about evolution when you read the story of atlantis, which means i'm correct when claiming that there is no such thing as a full blood Chippewa Indian. The bible is about the Chippewa's.

Contributors to the book will be on hand to autograph purchased books and to talk about the project.

Books may be purchased at that time for $15.00. If you have already purchased a copy, bring it to the launch and we will gladly sign it for you. The book will also be available for purchase at local book stores and at the Tom Thomson Art Gallery gift shop. Proceeds from book sales will go toward the creation of the Piyak Ootihi Memorial Garden.
The book describes the “patches” sewn with love by the Piyak Ootihi (One Heart) Beaders. These patches have been applied to a red blanket reminiscent of the Hudson’s Bay blankets that were among the items traded with the Métis and First Nations ancestors. Each “patch” has a special story or meaning attached to it that speaks of heartbreak, joy, friendship and tradition. The book was published by Ningwakwe Learning Press. The beaded blanket is on display at the Owen Sound & North Grey Union Public Library.
Piyak Ootihi (One Heart) Métis united formally as a Drum Circle in 2006, and since May 2008 have been focused on and committed to inform and help heal our community.
Hi,

In regard to your question, you can find information about Chief Hole in the Day at the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe Reservation, MN. There was Hole in the Day Sr. and Jr. They are both descendants of "The Emperor of Sandy Lake, associated with the Mille Band of Ojibwe, MN. The Emperor of Sandy Lake, MN was also known as Katawabeda (sp). Katawabeda was a descendant of Biaushwa I and II. All of the above mentioned came from a long line of chiefs, you can also look for Biaushwa I and II, again my spelling since I don't have the source documents in front of me. I hope all of this info will help your search

Judy Olson

P.S. My most recent ancestor from this family is Mongozid or also known as Loon's Foot, who was Broken Tooth's son, and a grandson of Katawabeda.

Hi,

I'm trying to find info on my ancestor who was a Chippewa supposedly from Sugar Island area. We have found the g- grandmother Bertha Storms whose maiden name was Theriault/Terriault/Terrio. Her parents belonged to the Lax___view Tribe or something similar to that? Watersmeet, Mi ? Sugar Island. The earliest I can find her is 1910 census for Alger County married to a Charles/Charley Storm (Storms, Stormquist). They are there in the 1920 and 1930 census also. Bertha is age 19 in 1910 and gives her birthdate as 1891. Any help finding the parents of Bertha is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Shay

Does anyone know about the Chippewa of Mexico?

From doing research on the internet about Anishinabek history, i have learned that the Chippewa (or Ojibway) Ottawa's and Potawatomi who once lived in southern Wisconsin and central, northern and western Illinois, were forced by the United States to relocate to Iowa, Missouri, and then Kansas, during the 1830s and 1840s. When enough whites had colonized Kansas (by the early 1860s) they began to demand for the removal of all Kansas Indians, including the Ojibway, Ottawa and Potawatomi, which American political leaders applauded. Once the Kansan Anishinabek learned of the plans of the white Kansan Americans, they and other Kansan Indians, especially the Kickapoo, formed groups to flee to Mexico in 1864-1865. On their way there the whites (from the Confederate States) attempted to stop their advance to Mexico, but the Anishinabek and Kickapoo defeated them in the Battle of Dove Creek, which was fought on January 8, 1865. Several thousand Ojibway, Ottawa's, Potawatomi, Kickapoo and other Kansan Indians safely made it to Mexico, then increased the guerilla war their Anishinabek and Kickapoo kin had already long been carrying out against the Texans, afterwards. The first Ojibway, Ottawa, Potawatomi and Kickapoo likely fled to Mexico in the 1830s. Does anyone know if there exists any groups of Anishinabek who currently live in Mexico, and also in Texas. From my research i have learned that there are still groups of Kickapoo living Mexico, particularly in Sonora and Zacatecas, who are not linked to the Kickapoo Reservation in Coahuila, Mexico, and the Kickapoo Reservation located just to the south of Eagle Pass, Texas. Of course, both those Kickapoo Reservations likely have the descendants of the Anishinabek who fled to Mexico. However, we need to attempt to discover if there are still any Anishinabek living in Mexico, who are clinging on to their Anishinabek identity. If there are still Anishinabek living in Mexico, we need to get them Reservations in Mexico. If we don't they will lose their identity. Anywhere from 2500 to 5000 Anishinabek fled to Mexico between the 1830s and the 1860s, and there is the possibility that some groups of Anishinabek are currently landless in Mexico, and maybe even in Texas, but i am not so certain about Texas. Your help will be appreciated.

I've heard many stories about my great great grandmother, a woman who I've been told was 100% Chippewa, which would make me a 16th Chippewa. I've always had an incredible interest in this part of my heritage but I've never been able to get a hold of any sort of documentation. Recently I've been doing a lot of research on my own about Ojibwe but I'd love some kind of conclusive information about my family specifically. I know it would be an incredible experience to spend some time surrounded by the culture that I am a part of but I find the difficulty in finding information somewhat frustrating. I'm not looking for a long lost family member, I'm just seeking to learn more about my heritage than the internet can offer. Fobear and Mueller are the only names I have to base my search.

Hello Sherrin,
It showed up when I was looking for family. I was looking for the husband and the wife showed up.I knew they were together in 1880, but she and some of the children were listed later on the indian rolls.

I would just try the family name and county where they were and go from there.

Hope this helps.
Can anyone tell me if there are records of Native Americans that married white men. My gggrandfather married an N.A.woman that was his house keeper. They did have children and are on the census rolls for Chippewa/ Ojibwe. I can't find him after 1887 and I am looking for his death records. They lived in Baraga Co. MI. His name was Wm. H. Hendrick and her name was Susan Pi(e)quette. He was a judge and lawyer. Is there anyone I can call or write that can help me. Thanks, Marsha P.S. The last names were either transcribed wrong. Hemrick, Riquette. Thanks

I am researching this line for a friend. Her father was Lance Derusha b. March 9, 1921 St. Ignace, MI. His parents were Henry and Mary Germaine Derusha. She recently visited with the family and her aunt, the only living sibling of Lance, told her they were enrolled members of the Ojibwa Tribe. How can she go about enrolling? Any info or advice is welcome. Thanks in advance.

Sincerely,

Sarah

Shay: While I don't where Bertha is, I can help clear up a few facts for you: Sugar Island, Michigan is part of Sault Ste. Marie in Chippewa County. Also, the tribe you were trying to name is the Lac Vieux Band of Chippewa Indians who reside in the extreme western part of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and in northern Wisconsin. As for finding her parents, I found going after death and marriage records is the way to go. Good luck.
