Please help!
I am trying to identify or narrow down a century old family quest. My ancestor, Anthony Louis Descomps dit Labadie b 1730 b 17 Dec 1807 is listed in church records in Windsor as having relations with a Sauteuse Indian which resulted in several children.
It is well known that Labadie was sympathetic to Chief Pontiac and had taken up arms with him against the British. However, some people in the family believe that this woman was a gift from Chief Pontiac (one of his daughters). I am just trying to narrow down whether or not Sauteuse is a sub-tribe of one of the major tribes in the Detroit/Windsor area or her actual name. I would REALLY appreciate any assistance anyone can provide.
Thank you for any help you can provide or direction.
