can anyone help me research the "Lower Chickasaws" in South Carolina. Squirrel King and about 200 Mississippi Chickasaws settled in South Carolina around 1723 to protect the trade route to the homeland. Some Chickasaws stayed in South Carolina after removal. The area around Indiantown, SC, has numerous historical references to Chickasaws, such as Black Mingo and Mingo Township. General Francis Marion (Swamp Fox)rode a Chickasaw horse during the Revolutionary War.

Any information would be appreciated.

Yes, I looked for both variations. I see you have not been doing genealogy long. The Johnson name is such a long shot, in Illinois alone, not to mention the variation of Johnston. Just for 1850, there are 4,921 Johnsons listed, 0 Tom Johnson, 92 Thomas Johnsons, and 295 William Johnsons. O Heldrick/Heldrich. What info do you have of the marriage? With no county or city, in Illinois, it would be very hard to find. I started with the 1850 census, because that is the first year wives names were mentioned unless, they were widowed. Sense i did not find a Hendrick/Hendrich family listed, in the 1800 to the 1850, in Illinois, it makes it much more harder to narrow down a county, or city. I hope this explains it a little better. If you have any other info i will look further. Good luck. Vidia

In looking at the Heldrich name, in the Native American, I could not find a connection. The Johnson name is very common. I did a quick look at the 1800 to 1840 USA Federal Census, the surname Heldrich is not in the USA, that I could find. It maybe spelled differently. I looked in the 1850 census and found 3 family,s listed with the heldrich surname. None were listed in Illinois. There were 3 family,s listed in 1850, with a total of 12 people, one family listed in Virginia, one in Maryland, and one in NY. All turned out to be fron Germany, or France in looking at there history. I could not find a record with the Heldrich connected to the Johnson. if you have a county or town in Illinois, and a date, this might help to lower the search of the Johnson name. Sorry I could not help. Good luck. Vidia

Gina,
Thank you so much for your help. I do have a copy of the Dawes packet and yes they were cancelled. But what I am having trouble with is was Abigail the daughter of Cheif William Colbert or was she fromanother Colbert line. I have been to the Nation's website and have looked at the outline on the Colbert family and do not find Abigail at all, but the lady from the NAtion that did the outline only sarted from the Oklahoma side and Abigail is from the Alabama side before the move to OK.
Cheryl

Hi Diane, I am not sure if this will help you, but I found 2 Cordelia Moore, listed on the Dawes Rolls. I could not find her as Redmond, there were a few Redmond listed, but it did not sound like any of your names. There are no Dozier listed. There are tons of Moore surnames, as the Moore is a very common surname. This is not much, but it is all I found, except what you already have on the other post. Good luck, Vidia

Thought you might want to check it out. It has some good info to follow up on.
Good hunting. Vidia

I do believe that Abigail was Cheif Colbert,s daughter. I have not looked at all the apps of the Stinnett,s family line, nor the many on the Colbert line. Many of them were excepted. I believe I read that Abigail was not mentioned on Cheif William,s app, but that several other children were also not on his app. I do believe you are on the right trail. If I find anything I will send it your way. I had a Stinnett from marriage of the Clemon Stinnett side, not a blood relative. On the notes I had, this was what I had down. In other family on the Abigail side, most think she was from the Cheif Colberts line. Maybe someone working on His line will post something to the forum.
Good luck.

Hi, John or Johnas as he was known to many, including my GGgrandmother, was a Chickasaw Freedman, and a medicine man.
This is some info on him. He was a beautiful man, and married 3 times, and had many children. Both his first and second wife were full blood Chickasaw. This is also stated by Epsie,s father, on his Dawes record. He had been a slave. This is some info on him that might help you. He was also said to be 115 years old when he died. I don,t know if that is true. My ggrandmother attended his funeral. He was known by many people.
