Sorry to take so long, but no, I haven't run across your names in my so-far fruitless search for the Jones family that raised the Indian boy that became my grandaughter's ancester (by way of her paternal grandmother). What a shame they had to be named "Jones" instead of something like "Terficky" or some such nonsense name that would have shown up easily. Hope you have better luck than I.

I am looking for a John and Annie Jones, listed in 1920 census as living with thier daughter and son-in-law, Minnie and Clyde Johnson in Dyer County. Both John and Annie have parents' birthplaces listed as "United States". John and Annie's children are Mary, Curtis, and Myrtle. Have you run across this family in your search? I can't seem to find where they might be in 1910 census.

It is a Deed for 40 acres either from the Chickasaw and Choctaw nations or on their land. I have been told repeatedly from my family that we have ties to the Chickasaw nation, and wondered if this form could help.

The for metioned Deed belonged to Earl lee James, and Beatrice Puge. If you have any information on then I would greatly appriciated it

Living in Indian Territory was no indication at all of being an Indian. There were many legal non-Indian residents in Indian Territory and many more illegal non-Indian residents, especially by the 1890s.

Also, the Five Civilized Tribes did not live on reservations. They lived in their own nations.

If you are referring to the George Mullins listed below, it is pretty certain he was not Indian. He was listed as white, born in Texas and both his parents were listed as white and born in Georgia. There seems to be no prior connection between these people and the Chickasaw Nation. I didn't find any George, Martin or Ann Mullins listed on the Dawes Roll from any tribe.

George Mullins
Home in 1900: Township 4, Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory
Age: 14
Birthplace: Texas
Race: White
Gender: Male
Relationship to head-of-house: Son
Father's Name: Martin Mullins
Mother's Name: Ann Mullins

I have a 1900 census for George Mullins that states residence in 1900 is Township 4, Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory.

With a statement of such, can we assume he is Indian and on a reservation?

I know to verify if he is Indian or not I have to get Roll and card numbers.
Hi, I am charged with the job of doing my family's history, and haven't much to go on at all. I am here looking for my maternal great-grandmother who was native American from Mississippi. I am trying all of the tribes from Mississippi, beginning with those from the northern part, because my family - excluding my great grandmother who I only know was native American, and may have been killed around that time by the group of men who chased my family from MS. Our family name went from Williams in MS, to Smith in Arkansas. My great grandfather changed the name in the car on the way to Arkansas, while being persued by an angry mob of men.

My grandmom just had her dna tested and it was determined she is 62% Chickasaw and 32% Jewish. We originally thought she was Cherokee, so now we are trying to trace our family heritage. Her mother was also Chicksaw Her name was Vera Mae Couch. If anyone has an info on her please let me know.
Savannah River Chickasaw

Hi, I'm looking for information on the Savannah River Chickasaw. I've seen where a Tony Carr in the past was mentioned in the Book "Guardians of the Valley: Chickasaws in Colonial Carolina" in connection to his family being descended from the Savannah River Chickasaw. It states that he traced his familiy back to Ellender Neece, a full-blood Chickasaw born in that area(Aiken County, S.C.) in 1795. Does anyone know where we may be able to find any information on the other families that were connected to or descended from the Savannah River Chickasaws? Any help on this would be very grateful. Thanks.

The other post from vondeano is my brother... Our father is Wiley Cleveland Raulston born in 1926. We grew up in Southern California. Both our parents are originally from Oklahoma and then moved to California before our birth. I believe Alvin Dean Raulston was our father's brother. Are you related and part of this family or do geneology research?

Yes, that's the right family. At least the first censuses you listed are for sure. I'd have to verify the others to be sure. I know they are listed as white on the census. I just didn't know if there is any other way to find out for sure if there is any Native American heritage there or not. One of my cousin's did recently say that he is pretty sure Mary Alma (Mamie) Brown-Comer was Cherokee. He says his mom, Mamie's daughter, said she was 1/2 Cherokee. My mother says she thought her dad, Mamie's son, said she was 1/4 Cherokee. I just want to know if there is any way at all to find this out for sure. It's very frustrating cause I know that inter-racial marriage was frowned on greatly back then and if that was the case they may not have ever wanted to fill out papers saying they were Native American at all. Which is so foreign to me! I would be so excited to verify this information and be proud of my Native American roots! Thanks for your reply!

Hello,

So glad you entered this information. I have been trying unsucessfully for years to find/verify who were Pleasant's father and mother.
I was told by Rev. Bobby Barnes of Henderson, Tn ( his aunt was the county historian for Chester County) that Pleasant's father was a William Barns/es from NC.
Of Laura Elizabeth Smallwoood /Barnes( born 1834-38) he said she was an orphan and so was Pleasant. My Pleasant in 1850 was living with an Isham Johnson family on the census listed as 21 years of age.
Love to trade info and figure out the ancestral line.
There were several Pleasant Barn/es about this time.
My Laura married a Teague man in Chester County,TN later in life according to another source.

My emailis: sandewhite@yahoo.com

D. F. McElyea, Register

I think that your Laura is the wife of this Pleasant. Most of the others mentioned are the heirs of Charles Barnes of Tishomingo Co., MS and Martha Barnes Burchett/Birkett. They were both the children of Dennis Barnes of Benton Co., TN, via Tishomingo Co., MS and McNairy Co., TN. The Jesse Barnes who was the owner of the land was Dennis' son, and the brother of Charles and Martha.

I am trying to figure out how Pleasant fits in.
I haven't talked to him in awhile. He was working for the Chickasaw Nation in Ada Oklahoma in 2008 though, that was the last time I talked to him. He was in their music department. Maybe you can see if there is some sort of directory? I will look too and tell you if I find anything.
