I am searching my family ancestry, and I am trying to find my decendents from the Cherokee Indian heritage. I am looking for a direct decendent who is on the Dawe's or Baker Roll for the Cherokee Indian's. This is their census roll. My mother's maiden name is Sexton, her mother's is Burchfield, and then we get to my 5th. great grandfather who was Oowahooskee. They are from Cades Cove in North Carolina, and are also from many parts of Tennessee. Any information that I could get would be greatly appreciated. Thank you !

I just ran across your message on Ancestry when I typed in Oo-was-hoos-kee.
My Paternal Grandmother was a Birchfield/Burchfield and I'm finding that he is a relative way back also. Haven't figured it out yet. I just learned that he wasn't married to Mary Birchfield but to Susan Birchfield. My grandmother was suppose to be full Cherokee. Her parents came from Yancy Co or Burke Co, No. Carolina. They moved to West Virginia. She was born there. There are a few Cherokee message boards that come up with quite a few pieces of information. Type in Cherokee in your Google search to find them. I have found some distant cousins on these boards. I have been searching for cousins on the Birchfield side. I've been involved in DNA with my Dads Fathers side and so been trying to find a direct female cousin from the Birchfield side. That is the only way I can trace the indian dna is threw the female relative.
If you would like to correspond with any info you might have that we could exchange that would be great.

I am researching the Sextons who was your mother. I am looking into Jim Sexton b. 1871 in Cherokee Nation East. I believe him to be father of Emmett, Kneely, Ethel, HIlliard, Bonnie and Etta(Edder). Any info would be appreciciated. Jason

I don't know if any of this will help, this is the info I have...My great grandpa was William A Birchfield & married Susan Ann Myatt... my records show he was born in Tenn Dec 7, 1843 and died April 18, 1906 in Searcy Co. Arkansas. His father was Moses Yates Birchfield born 1811 and married Ruth Palmer who was born in 1808. Susan Ann Myatt, duaghter of Eldredge Myatt & Pactheny Adcock. Susan was born June 20, 1851 in Arkansas and died Feb ? Records indicate this family from Cades Cove and poss related to Oowahooskee.
