Jesse Vann was my ggg-gf. My gg-grandparents wee David McCracken and Jennie Vann, Jesse's daughter. Although much is written about this Vann family, I cannot determine, what happened to Jesse Vann?? Did he remove west in 1838? Any info regarding Jesse Vann I would be most grateful. Jeanie

Thanks, I realize there are many James & Jesse Vann's, the search is tough. My gg-grandmother was Jennie Vann, b. abt 1820-30, she married David McCracken. Jennie's father was Jesse Vann b. maybe 1800. His father was Chief James 'Blue Eyes' Vann. b. abt 1775ish. Chief Vann was in GA. When he passed he left his Mansion Home, this was prior to the removal in 1838, to his son Joe 'Rich Joe' Vann. These are my Vann's. Although I know that many Vann surnames througout the region of TN, NC, VA and of course GA were kin. Starr's research and that of Jim R. HIcks regarding the Vann and Hicks family, niether state what happened to Jesse Vann [above]. I 'think he went to TN or possibly HC. He was not the only Vann to escape the removal and whereabouts unknown. Jennie [Vann] McCracken is on the Guion Miller Roll along with her son William, it is hand written in the census. Maybe this will help. If you all think I can help you I certainly will. What you have posted so far, I do not have in my files. Thanks, Jeanie

Your response is filled with stuff that's familiar to me. Let's try it this way. Jesse Greenberry Vann b.1848, Dawes 19590 FB and Mary Eliza Mathis, b.1848, Dawes 19591 FB were my great grandparents. My Grandfather was Jesse T. Vann b.1874 FB Not registered and my grandmother was Gussie Elizabeth (Smith) Vann b. 1887 3/4 not registered. All those folks except my grandmother are buried in Antioch Baptist Chruch cemetery in Apison, Tennessee. That's in Bradley county and a short day's buggy ride from Spring Place, or "the Vann House," outside chattsworth, Ga

Hi, thanks for the info. I tried to go to cherokeeblood.com and it would not take me to the site. Is it down? I sure would like to get info on Jesse [other given could be John dunno] Vann who had a daughter named Jennie. Supposedly she was named after Jesse mother Jennie Foster. Anyway according to Dr. Emmet Starr and Jim Hicks research notables on some of these lines, the documentation is that Jennie dau of Jesse son of Chief James 'Blue Eyes' Vann, state that Jennie married William David Ernest McCraken. Some or all of the given names may be correct. I do know that this McCracken was kin to the James McCracken that lived in the north GA area with the Hicks, Vanns and other McCrackens. If you can help me with that website I would be grateful.
Thanks, Jean

The site you mentioned in your posting is mine, but I think you have an error in the string. the web-site is <www.cherokeebyblood.com>;. I have a lot on information on the Cherokee genealogy from Starr and other sources, especially on the VANN's.

I could not find a McCracken-Vann mariage in my 1921 Starr book, but I may be able to back-track them through my Dawes Application lists if you could give me their approximate dates of birth, and names of their children.

The site was down for a few days while I migrated to a new server, but if fully functional now.

Thanks, so much. My info comes from Jim Hicks, his web page can be found on the Cherokee.org website of the western Nation. His evidence shows that Jennie Vann dau of Jesse Vann son of Chief James Vann married the McCracken. I suppose you know who he is. He is well documented and accepted. My other back up documentation comes from my Grandmothers Bible. She was born in 1884 and was a Hicks. On the Guion Miller Roll you can find Jennie McCracken and William E McCracken handwritten in sideways on the 'M' page. Just further documentation. I appreciate all your help to either further document or perhaps disclaim the records.
Thanks, Jeanie
