The Hawkins of Wilkes County NC came out of Granville NC and probably VA before that. They descend from Philomon Hawkins. They have close ties to the Eaton family. It's possible that some of the Hawkins in Wilkes may have married in the Cherokee but not positive. Granville NC is not the area of the Cherokee and Philomon Hawkins did have his own district "Capt Hawkins Dist" so Im pretty sure he was of European descent. Granville area also known for having a lot of Free African Americans and Tribes other than the Cherokee. Post on the Wilkes County board , there is a known Hawkins researcher there who may be able to help you. Also one of the people who runs the Granville usgenweb is on the Wilkes board too and may have more info about Granville.
