In 1795 the BOWL emigrated from the Chickamauga villages to the region where Ft. Smith Arkansas is now. In 1809, Tahlonteeskee did the same with apx 300 people. It is recorded that some of these people did indeed reside along the upper Mississippi River in 1811. That year there was a very destructive earthquake along the New Madrid fault line. This formed Reelfoot lake in western Tennessee. The MS. River flowed upstream for 3 days, according to records. The aftershocks went on for months afterwards. All this is recorded. Many of the Cherokee living in what is now Missouri left the area to go back to the Arkansas area because of these aftershocks. I suppose they feared another larger quake hitting.
This same group of original immigrants are the patriarchs of the Texas/Mexico Cherokee. But are also the origins of the Keetowah Band...and the Old Settlers.
