Message: If your Civil War Ancestor served in Companies A or B of the 43rd or Company C of the 41st Regiment, we are interested in any information you can supply regarding your ancestor(s), particularly regarding where they are buried. Any other information you may have including: rank; date of birth; place of birth; date of death; & place of death would be helpful. Any letters, stories, or artifacts he may have sent, told or possessed would also be of interest.

There is a current project under way by the General Barton and Stovall History/Heritage Association(GBSH/HA) (www.generalbartonandstovall.com) to identify the place of burial of all members of the Georgia Brigade Regiments 40, 41, 42, 43 & 52 in order to honor these soldiers for their service to the cause for Southern Independence. Prior research has located over 1,500 graves of these soldiers. There were approximately 7,000 men who served in these units.

If you would like to supply any family information to this project please respond to jo.bailey@comcast.net

Thanks for your time and interest,

Joe Bailey
43rd Georgia Regimental Historian
GBSH/HA
Chenawee Bryant family and before

I would be very interested if anyone has more info on this Bryant family and their ties in Northern Georgia.

I descend from a John P Bryant born about 1810 in Northern Georgia. His father is possibly a John Bryant who also resided near him in Madison County, Georgia and was probably born around 1785 or so.

I got Y DNA test results back from my uncle who is a Bryant male descendant and he matched a potential descendant of Chenawee and the recorded line that went to Tennessee. So I’m trying to find all the info I can and see where the connection might be, seems more than coincidence that my Bryant line ends in Northern Georgia in early 1800s (and late 1700s) and this line goes right in that general region.
I have a free Ancestry account so I haven't been able to look at many records, but I'm curious about her as well.

I am a descendant of Chenawee & Lucy Bryant. I did find that Chenawee was a signer of the 1805 Treaty of Tellico. His father John Bryant was hung in 1781 in Virginia as a Tory. Jere Cox had a lot of info incorrect. If anyone has any other info to share please contact me at charleneboland22@gmail.com. My maiden name is Sellers.

Sgt. William Brown b 1788 Alabama

Aloha, I am wondering if anyone has knowledge of Sgt. William Brown (b 1788 in Alabama) marrying.
If so, who was/were his wife/wives? My mom and I have been researching her family and we've hit a brick wall.

My ggggg grandfather was William Brown born cira 1788. He married Levina Bunch 1808 Hardin Kentucky.

It's a long shot, but we have been told of Cherokee Ancestry. On one of my mom's birthdays, as a child, she received a gift of a Cherokee headdress, a note welcoming her to the Cherokee and her Cherokee name that translated to Mountain Dawn.

Also, the men of the Brown family seem absent from most of the census records except as children.

If you know of any information it would help us tremendously.

Mahalo nui,
Melissa

I am trying to find information on the families of John Buck Blankenship and wife Millie Thompson and Solomon Blankenship--John Buck's first cousin--and wife Lucinda McCoy. We know that John's wife, Millie, was Cherokee, her mother was a Fields. Lucinda's is also supposed to have been--DNA of her descendants confirms Native American heritage. Is is possible that Lucinda is a daughter of Alexander McCoy whose mother was also of the Fields family.

John Buck helped his and other families escape and avoid deportation on the Trail of Tears settling in Coosa County, Alabama. Solomon and his family lived in Henry County, Georgia.

I have seen at least one family tree that shows Alexander with a child, L McCoy in 1825 which fits with the time frame of my Lucinda's birth.

Thanks everyone for considering this.

Brenda Austin Mason

I did have my information wrong. He drove a wagon for the government in Georgia taking Cherokee's to government settlements and this was well before the Trail of Tears. Thanks for clarifying that for me.

Hatton, TN: died in Civil War
1835- had 2nd Son James M Hatton, TN
Left TN after 1835?
1837- had 3rd son William Franklin Hatton in Mississippi
1838- Was in Texas as a Texas Ranger, Muster Roll card
1840- had 4th Son Jefferson Hatton, TX: died in Civil War
1841- Justice of the Peace, Texas
1842- had daughter Eliza Jane Hatton, TX
1843-died and buried in Texas

It seems he just popped up out of nowhere, only a 1830 census shows him living with "Free White People" in household, no names/neighbors or anything, saying that he was born in 1800 in Georgia.
I have strong Cherokee ties with this line in my family and it puzzles me that he just 'appeared'. And for him being a 'Lawman' here in Texas, I can't find any pictures of record of this man.

Any help on this at all would be greatly appreciated.
Veronica

I noticed your post on ancestry.com about your Cherokee ancestry. I just finished reading a book about Cherokee history. I don’t remember the first names, but England was one of the last names in that book. The link is http://www.mocavo.com/datasets/History-of-the-Cherokee-India.... Somewhere around page 303, you will find the list of some old family Cherokees. Just scan through the pages until you come to a list of several Englands. Hope this helps.

If you ever come across information about the ancestors of Mary Ottertail, b. about 1750 m. to Henry McGee or information about Sarah Waters, probably born in the early to mid-1700s, I’d appreciate you letting me know.
Thanks so much for the info.I will check out the Fort Smith Criminal records. I have found info there before on Cherokee lines. My lines are through Uriah's brother John Hubbard and the Bracketts, Rapers,Duncans,Parkers, Childress, etc.I do have a large data base on Uriah's family and have the following: Zachary Taylor Parris wife Elizabeth Jane Ellenberg, was the son of George W Parris and Matilda Hubbard d/o Uriah and Nellie from Forsyth Co Ga. Zachary was the grandson of Moses Parris and Mary Langley. Please correct me if I am wrong. I have dates of births deaths and census records.

I have Nancy ( NanaE Croatan) Aldrich,* Aldridge), Morris. She was b. march 19, 1874 and D. Sept. 19, 1964. I think I might have 2 sets of parents for her but not sure. David Fredrick Aldrich father and Eliza Nevils, 1st set of parents. the second one is Aurelious Croatan, Aldrich, Piper father. I had talked to my 2nd cuz and in around about way this is how I came up with it. I have a copy of original letter from Aurelious aka Chief Big Eagle andSays that she was a mid wife and medicine woman to her tribe. That she took care of him in times of trouble but then she married to Morrises and lived for ever as a white woman. The first husband is Elijah Morris and can't find any information on him so we think he dies young. The second Morris is Richard John Morris, my great grandpa, sorry don't know the dates of hand. So now im trying to figure out how she could be a distant cousin to Aurelious H. Aldrich, Piper EAnglish name and Native name is Chief Big EAgle. His father was Aure Croatan, Aldrich also. so this is where I am stuck I not sure about all this part at all any help would be appreciated
thank you a head of time
Pam

Futher research on decendant of Uriah and Nellie My G G grandfather Zachary Taylor Parris has turned up numerous Fort Smith legal issues with the Parris family - Zacharey Taylor Parris died in detroit prison and I believe these are his records they are listed under the name Taylor Parris which other have indicated as the name he went by. The records can be accessed through ancestor.com criminal records search. Be sure to arrow throuh all of the pages ajacent to his record. Some great historical records here including copies of warrants and hand written wittness accounts. Other Parris on record as well henery, John and George are all names recorded at Fort Smith. The famous hanging judge "Issac Parker" is affiliated with these records.

I am looking for information on my 4G grandmother who was married to John Brown and mother of Jackson Jack Brown. Lavinia(unknown maiden name; believed to be Cherokee) was born in Georgia around 1796 and possibly died in 1850 in Mississippi.

My great grandmother was Estella Vaughn-Brown and was Cherokee! She went by "Annie". My grandpa told me the story of the Trail of Tears and how our ancestors were forced to move when I was in junior high. She married into the Christensen family of Council Bluffs, Iowa. I wish I had more information.

Nan, Those were the things I found, however did you find a last name or parent, etc.? I think you have confirmed what I thought -- maybe I can continue gathering information. Thanks, you have been wonderful to pass your wisdom along. Edna
