Can anyone tell me where I might look for My GGGgrandmother. Family Stories tell us that her mother was Part Cherokee Indian from Illinois.My GGGrandmother wento Okla. in about 1879 or 1880 , she was enough Indian to Get land, but my GGGrandfather did not like the Okla. Indians so they went back to Arkansas.Her name was Rilda Roach and she married John L. Scantling( I do not know if they married in Okl. or in Arkansas.) The land she could have had later struck oil.would there be records for her- how would she know what land would have been hers?Where do I begin my search in 1879 -1880 possibly around Eufaula or close to Tulsa.Please-I really need help on this one.Would papers she had to fill out be under her name,mothers maiden name or her married name or her married name? or an Indian name?
