Many Tribes have absorbed anglicized surnames into the Tribal rolls due to intermarriage with non-Indians or adopting simpler names more understandable by non-Indians. You will find within the Alabama-Coushatta Tribe such names as Williams, Robinson, Johnson and some derived from French contact such as Battise, Poncho, Sylestine, Celestine. In other words, almost any surname is fair game. The typical Hollywood names such as Little Bird are not as common although some Tribes retain names in their own language that do not adapt well to the English language. I meant no offense with my reference to "royalty"-only a comment.
Anyhow, what's in a name?
