I am looking for information on my great-grandfather Louis
(Alois?) Novotny. He was the son of Josef Novotny and born in Bohemia 23 Dec 1858. He married Mary Pikal daughter of Wencil and Marie Pikal. Mary was born somewhere in Czech.
18 Mar 1862. I do not know when and where Louis and Mary were married or when they emigrated, but they ended up in St Paul by way of New Prague Minnesota (US) along with a lot of other Novotnys but very few Pikals. Any help would be appreciated and I will share what I have and do what I can concerning researching these or other Czech. surnames in Minnesota. Thank you in advance.

I am currently working on an Ohio branch of that very common 'Novotny' surname. Most of the Novotnys that I have identified migrated to northeastern Ohio (in and around Lorain, Amherst, Vermilion and Cleveland). Any information on Mary, Christina, Pavlov, Susie, Joseph or John, would really be appreciated.

My great grandmother's maiden name was Novotny (Rose or Rosalie). She married Karel (Charles) Sochor on the ship when they came to America (1890, I believe). They settled in Cleveland, OH and opened a grocery store. Rosalie's sister opened a store in Elyria, OH. Any relation?

Thanks

Y will have to check with my wife's aunt who is the last Novotny daughter of John Novotny (1889-1971) and Karolina Hudimac (1889-1966). My wife's aunt, Mary Margaret Windau (nee Novotny) was born in 1920 and lives in Castalia, Ohio. Coincidentally, her brother, Emil Novotny (1926-1999) opened a 'farm market' and his children still operate it to this day. It is located on Rte. 60 in Vermilion, Ohio. I understand that there are relatives in Chicago, IL (with a basket factory) and also in Lakewood, Ohio. One group of Novotnys are said to have had a 'moving' business and another was a 'blind' skier in the Special Olympics. As soon as I find out more, I'll be in touch. I just saw on the message boards of another 'Novotny' branch that includes the Hijek family of Cleveland. Thanks again for your response.

Hi Mary,
I'm a Carrabine by marriage from Cleveland, OH. My ex-husband was Daniel Carrabine, son of Bob and Marge Carrabine. All the Carrabine's in the Cleveland area are related. Who are your husband's parents?

Yvonne, my mother-in-law's maiden name was Novotny. As you know, the name is a very common one. My mother-in-law, Ann Therese Novotny, was born in Cleveland OH, 3/20/1916 and died in January 1979 in Vermilion, OH. It has been said that her father's name was Anton J. Novotny. Anton is said to have married Karolina Hudimac (1889-1966). Ann was the eldest of four children of whom only Mary Margaret Windau (nee Novotny) is yet alive. Emil Novotny and his two sisters, Ann and Emily both passed to their reward, several years ago. For further information, may I refer you to the www.ellisisland.org web site. There are a number of Novotnys who settled in the Chicago, IL area. Good luck!

Mary, as I told Yvonne, my mother-in-law's name was Ann Therese Trinter (nee Novotny). She was born in the Cleveland, OH area in 1916 and died in Vermilion, OH in 1979. Her father was Anton J. Novotny and her mother was Karolina Novotny (nee Hudimac). In researching the family tree, I found a lot of information using the www.ellisisland.org web site. Good hunting!
