The John Thompson who died at Seymour, Northumberland County, Ontario on June 4, 1901 at age 82 years was not ever called William to my knowledge- unless descendents in his family line have proof he had both given names. This man was married to MARY CURRIE and they were the parents of Isabella, Alexander, Daniel, Elizabeth, Hector, Duncan and Amelia. They lived their whole lives in Northumberland County, and did not EVER live in Lennox and Addington or Frontenac Counties.
Some people are posting the death date for this man as March and some as June in the year 1901. The month he died was June, look closely at the handwriting and progression of dates on the page of deaths that John is on.
This John was alive in April of 1901 when the census was taken and living with his son Alexander Thompson and Alexander's family:

The above census was recorded on April 11, 1901 according to info at top of the page that John age 82 is on.
I have no idea who the parents were for the John Thompson who lived in Northumberland County. On the 1871 and 1891 census's it was recorded that John was born in Quebec, while on the 1881 and 1901 census's it was recorded that he was born in Ontario.
SEVERAL persons who are direct descendents of 1822 John Thompson and Elizabeth Kirkpatrick of Lennox and Addington (or Frontenac) Counties have somehow, in total error, attached their families to the John above who lived and died in Northumberland County.
John Thompson and his wife Elizabeth Kirkpatrick lived their last days at Barrie in Frontenac County; John died May 10 1885 at Barrie, his wife Elizabeth died April 16, 1885 also at Barrie. I have a file for John and Elizabeth who also used the name Isabelle, if anyone wants info on their children and grand-children. These are the Barrie-Kaladar-Northbrook Thompson families.
I can see that people are trying to go farther backwards and claim descendency from David Thompson and Charlotte Small. At this point unless someone has paper documentation for the JOHN THOMPSON of Northumberland County being the son of David and Charlotte, it seems he is not the elusive 1819 William Thompson either.
David and Charlotte did have two sons that I have not been able to find information for: William born in 1819 in Glengarry County, Ontario and Thomas born 1822 also in Glengarry County.
If anyone has documentation for these families, please post here, or contact me directly.
