Lithuanian Ancestors in Scotland

Surnames: Dubickas, Kaiminskiute, Balkeen
I am trying to get any information that might help me in tracing my Lithuanian ancestors. Juozas Dubickas was married in Mossend in 1907 to Mare Kaiminskiute. Mare sadly died and he married her sister Agota Kaiminskiute in 1912. He is listed on 1911 census as a coal miner living in Bairds Square, Holytown, Lanarkshire.
I believe he left Scotland somewhere between 1917 and 1918, there was a family story that he was killed trying to liberate Lithuania from the Russians. I also have noticed that some of his children have started to use the surname Balkeen, and wonder if anyone would know why this might be (is this in someway related to the white army).
Any help in researching these ancestors would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Lisa

Lisa,

Is it possible he was sent back by the British government to join the Russian army since he was considered to be Russian by them.

Check the other postings on this list to see further information.

Thanks Tom
I believe that Lithuanians were given the choice to join the British Army or return to Russia to join the Russian Army. I think he took the option to return to Russia, at the end of 1917. However, this coincides with the Russian Revolution and am unsure if he would have fought with either the Bolshevick or with the Imperial White Russian Army. The family believes he was killed by the Russians, however, there is no longer any surviving family to confirm or fill in the blanks. I believe Balkeen (the surname adopted by some of his children) has some conitations towards white or fair-haired in Lithuanian, which is why I believe he may have fought on the White Russian side.
Do you have any sources of information that maybe useful to me.
Many Thanks
Lisa

Lisa,

Sorry but I don't have any further information. The Russian Revolution was in Novemeber 1917 (current calendar though it was in October under the old Russian calendar).

So if he got there in late 1917, things would have been all up in the air. Lithuania did not declare its independence until February 1918 which added to the mix.

My mom's side of the family had already emigrated to the U.S. by that time while my father's family were all still in Lithuania trying to survive.

Surnames: Bitkauskus Marchulonous Keeper
I am looking for the Lithuanian ancestors of my sister-in-law. Her grandfather's name was Vincus Bitkauskus. He was born about 1890 in Lithuania, but after he immigrated to Scotland sometime before 1910, he legally changed his name to William Keeper. He married, in 1910 in New Monkland Glen [now Glen Mavis], Scotland, Ona "Anne" Marchulonous, born in Lithuania. He was a coal miner, and the family operated a beauty shop in Larkhall, Lanarkshire, Scotland . He served in the British army in France during World War I. The family moved to Bellshill, Lanarkshire, Scotland (about 10 miles east of Glascow, about 1939. The family had 11 children. Any information would be appreciated.
