Hello all,
I've been doing some research on 'Sanches' and 'Plaisance' in Southern Louisiana
My 'Sanches' lines are from the Canary Islands Would the Plaisance line also originate in the Canaries?
Thank for any help
Marsha

Dear Marsha,
Yes, the Placencia name also came from the Canary Islands with Juan and Gaspar de Placencia. I suggest you obtain a copy of The Canary Islanders of Louisiana by Gilbert C. Din published by the Louisiana State University Press, copyright 1988. We are also decendants of the Placencia family on my father's father side, and the Sanchez family on my father's mother's side.

Hi Marissa,
How interesting! You relate to both lines also. The Plaisance line comes in through my late husband. His maternal grandfather was a Sanchez and his maternal grandmother was a Plaisance.
Their names were Andre Sanchez m Theodora Ella Plaisance. One of their children was Milda Sanchez who married Anthony Templet, Sr.. They were from the Donaldsonville area.
I wonder if we could be cousins through marriage?
Would you happen to know how I could order "The Canary Islanders of Louisiana?" It seems I've heard of it somewhere.

Dear Marsha,
We found the book about the Canary Islanders in Louisiana at the Barnes and Noble site, as I recall, and ordered it right over the internet. That was a couple of years ago, so hopefully they still have it.
My father was a Cavalero (Caballero) from Donaldsonville, and Marie Plaisance was his grandmother on his father's side. Dad's mother was Lucy Sanchez, daughter of John Sanchez and Leonise Fernandez Sanchez.
I'm sure your husband and my dad had to have some common ancestors.
We think our John Sanchez may have been the son of Andres Tito Sanchez but we are having a lot of difficulty trying to find any records to substantiate exactly which family he belonged to. Since we are not in the state of Louisiana we don't have access to any of the diocese or parish records not on the internet. Would appreciate any insights.
