Hi Nicole

I am hoping you are still using the ancestry website. I have a similiar question about my family history. I have been identified as having ABoriginal heritage by some Aboriginal people for a long time now but are still having difficulty in finding out about my family history. I do know that my family name was Griffiths before becoming Griffis (without the 'th) and that we were from the Paterson River area not far from Cesnock. If you would like to contact me further please email me at damiang@adnnsw.org.au to chat further.

Cheers
Damian Griffis

Howka, have you tried the Barkuma Aboriginal Neighbourhood Centre?

http://culturehunter.org/directory/barkuma-aboriginal-neighb...

Also try this as well

Also look at this article..

there is a griffiths .. You could contact the newspaper and or look up the person Rick Griffiths, chief executive of the Mindaribba land council, which represents indigenous people in the Cessnock area, said it was an insult. "There's no mention of compensation for the leases … And what happens if there's a change of state government?" he said. "They don't go to white communities and say this, do they?"
