Hi! I hope you still come on and check this. However you sparked my interest! My Great Grandfather is Feliks Bednarski, he came her from Poland. I know that he came here and met his 2 brothers that were already over here. Feliks got into a fist fight with one of his brothers and was "disowned" from the family. I wonder if Frank Bednar was his brother...
p.s. Feliks came over to the US in 1911, I have his marriage certificate which states his parents names
Here is my email
Cbednarski@penskeautomotive.com
Look forward to hear from you or anyone :-)
Thanks!

Hi, there - looking into potential connections to the Kriho name. I know it's a long shot, given that none of the other names in your post are familiar, but my Kriho was also from Brezova & later generations were in Chicago.

I have an Anna Kriho who married Martin Zavodny. Their son, Stefan (as you say, EVERYONE has at least one Stefan!) married Katarina Slahor(ova) in 1868, and they had seven kids - Stefan, Anna, Jan, Samuel, Katarina, Martin, & another Samuel (apparently the first one died).

Here is what I know. Helen Koranda married Adolph Graf. They are both buried in Resurrection Cemetery and I am currently in the process of taking photos. Also, I can tell you what happened to the siblings and where some are buried. I know someone on the Graf side is alive because one of the graves is well-kept. Also each plot has a HUGE MONUMENT, both for GRAF and BEDNAR. When I go next to Resurrection, Ill get photos.

Searching for info on my g grandfather Emil H. Hasmann who married Anna Meri Kubes (?).

Emil's port of departure was Hamburg, Germany. He came over on the Pennsylvania and arrived in Chicago, Aug, 24, 1905 at the age of 27. He came from Bohemia, Austria. The passenger log lists his home town as "Dodmokle"

Anna supposedly came over as a maid for a family - the Ellis Island records show two Anna Kubes one is about 40 which is too old and the other is 17 but she came in 1911 (my grandfather was born in 1909).

Any relatives and information appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Kris,

Good to hear from you! I'm not sure if we have a connection either. According to the 1869 Brezova Census, there are quite a few Mizialkos. Trying to figure out who is directly related is another story - everyone has a Stefan. I want to try & get to the Family History Center (LDS) to see what I can find. I also am thinking of renting the microfilm from Trinity Lutheran Slovak Church in Chicago, I just need to find some time where I can really focus on it. You can also go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Brezova/ & post the names you're looking for. The woman who started it is very knowledgable & has a lot of info on Brezova families. You can also email me privately - val1@tampabay.rr.com

Best Regards, Val

Hi, Val -

I'm not sure if we have a connection. The Stefan Mizialko I show in my husband's family was married to Judita Vicik and had 3 daughters (Betty, Mildred, and Anna). He was also married to Alzbeta Huska. Does that help at all?

My husband's grandmother was Alzbeta Nosko, born 11-19-1883 in Brezova. She married Samuel Vrablik in 1904.

Does this sound familiar? Let me know.

Thanks,

Kris

Looking at the date, I see your post is from 2002 & I hope you still check in. My grandmother is Judita Mizialko, her parents were Stefan & Judita (Kriho) from Brezova. They immigrated to Chicago in the 1890's. According to the 1920 US Census, Samuel Nosko lived w/ them. My dad thinks he was a cousin. I would love to know if we have a connection here. Oh, there is a Miroslav Mizialko living in Bratislava today as well.

Val

OBIT: Joseph C. Haksa c 1887 -- 1959 Chicago ---> Fox River Grove IL (husband of Louise)

Attached is the May 3, 1959 Chicago Tribune obituary of Joseph C. Haksa, 72, husband of Louise. I'm putting it here because there is not (yet) a HAKSA board on Ancestry, and in the 1930 Census, Joseph & Louise gave their birthplace as Czechoslakia. In 1920, they said Austria; in other years, Bohemia.

In 1920, they had a six-year-old daughter, Helen A. Haksa, living with them, as well as three cousins surnamed STEPAN (Rose, James, and their son William). Helen is not mentioned in her father's 1959 obit and is not listed with her parents in 1930. (If she married at 16, her surname would have changed; but perhaps she died between 1920 and 1930). No other children are listed with Joseph & Louise in 1930, either.

Louise's middle initial in 1920 appears to be recorded as "K" and in 1930 as "C" -- and her first name varies between Louise and Louisa.

In 1910, Joseph Haksa was living withi his mother, Anna Haksa, his own brother Thomas, and Anna's brother Joseph CZERNY (or Cerny or Gerny). Anna listed the family as Austria Bohemia heritage.

HAKSA appears to be a *very* rare name, and the Trib archives mistranscribed it, so you'd never find Joseph's obit searching there under the correct spelling, HAKSA. See the attachment for details of his career, etc.

Posted as a random act of genealogical kindness, no relation to me and no further info available from me, sorry. Now I need to find out information on Storkan. They came in 1865 and were listed inone of the books as Emanuuel Smrz and Eman, that's all I have on them. I took down a note ca couple of days ago on Frances or Francis Snrz& Emily Delores Klezynski born 1914, also Frank Smrz married Antonia Slivaka 18 Feb 1906 Cchicago,Cook,Illinois. I imagine you already know that because it is a later time.

Thank you so much for your info on the Preucil ship and date. As for the date on Anna I picked up the wrong date . She was born 1846 . Linhart(Leonard) and Antoine came to US in 1873. A Marie in 1856 and a Marie in 1872, No ship or date. I also would like to find the ship and date that Emanuel and Anna came. The only note I have is that Eman and Emanuel came in 1865. I think the Eman was probably Annna because they came on their honeymoon. As for anny Viche 's daughter I have a note in my files that Katerina was her daughter and there were lots of pedigrees on her. The only place I would have seen pedigrees would be on Ancestry,Roots web or Famillysearch.org. I will go back and see if I can find the source. Katerina is also listed as Sergova. There is one thought that her name is actually Smrgova. I will start searching. I will recheck the name Pilot,
I do have some census records on Pilot in 1880.
