My father George Hurt married Elsie Houda in 1935 in Cicero, IL. I am their only child. I've done family history back several generations but I cannot seem to find much on the Houda line. Do you have any Bohemian Hurts or Houdas in your family?
Thanks and regards,
George Hurt

My grandmother Mae Pavelchik (Houda) lived in Cicero as teen. Her father was John Houda and Mother Catherine. She had passed away on Nov 8, 2009. I wass doing some research for her wake today.

Hi,

I have a Veronica or Weronica Houda in my family tree; she was my great-great grandmother. We know little about her, only that she married Charles "Carl" Beckman (Bachman) from Germany, gave birth to Lillian Frances Beckman in Chicago, then left Carl to live with her family in Black River Falls, WI. Not long afterward she got sick and died, so Lillian was sent to live with Carl's parents and was raised as their child.

Apparently Lillian told her daughter (my grandmother) that she had Bohemian lineage, so maybe there's a distant connection. I agree, there's little about this family name out there! Perhaps the spelling was changed from something else.

Hope this helps!

Surnames: Houda
My Grandmother was a decendent of a Houda family, her maiden surname was Howard though, and she was born around 1915 in the Chicago area. I believe it was her mother's side who were Czech Bohemians, but would love to know more. My Grandmother has since passed, so I'm unable to ask more details. Cheers,
