Nielsen (Nelson) from Denmark
Looking for family of Hans Simon Nielsen and wife, Ane Nielsen (daughter of Niels Christian Knudsen). Wedded Nov 22, 1879, lived at Norregade 26, Odense Kobstad, Odense, Fyn, Dansk in 1880. Emmigrated to Iowa in 1883 w/ daughter Agnes Theodora Kirstine age 2. Records indicate they traveled w/ Fred Nielsen, another family member who was headed for Chicago. Upon arrival in US they changed last name to Nelson and lived in Nebraska and Iowa areas. Do not know what happened to Fred. Would love to contact any Danish family as well as US family. Ane's maiden name was Nielsen as well. Both families were from Marslev parish, Fyn. Please email me direct if you suspect you know of any of these persons. Other family first names are Valdemar Nielsen, Soren Nielsen, Karen Nielsen & Peder Hansen (married & stayed in Egelund), and Niels Christian Nielsen. I have alot more information to help identify them if you need. Thank you kindly.

Re: Nielsen (Nelson) from Denmark
Hello Theresa,
I have family with all the names below. My grandfather's name was Valdemar Nielsen, and my great grandfather was Niels or Niles Nielsen not sure if his middle name was Christian or not yet. They changed there surname though when they came to America. I am not sure if we are family or not. Maybe we can share what we have with each other and figure it out. Some of my family ended up in Spencer , Iowa and Chicago , Ill. which is where my dad, aunt ,cousins and me were born, otherwise just about all my relatives were born in Denmark.( or Iowa)

Re: Nielsen (Nelson) from Denmark
My grandmother was Agnes Nelson. We thought she was born in Bemis Park, Nebraska (now part of Omaha) in 1885. Her father was Hans Simon Nielsen, an immigrant from Odense. I have a picture of him (in his 20's). I heard he was a brick mason..His wife, Ana (I don't know the spelling) claimed to have brothers in the Danish Royal Guard. Agnes had bothers, I think one worked as a blacksmith and lived in Phoenix. Agnes married Robert Kirkham and lived in Jefferson, Iowa. She died in Los Angeles about 1971.

Nielsen (Nelson) from Denmark
If your Valdemar was born about 1867 he could be my Hans' younger brother. If Hans had other siblings who came to America would like to know about them. Please email me as I don't always check this site for followups. Hope to hear from you.

Re: Nielsen (Nelson) from Denmark
Niels Christian Magnus married a Hanne Hansen (b. 12 Mar 1868 in Lindelse, Fyn, Denmark father Nels Hansen mother Ane Marie Pedersen) both born in Denmark. If she had stayed in Denmark she'd be a Nielsen not a Hansen. Hanne 1st married a Knudsen who was many years older than she. I believe one of her children was a Valdemar Nelson?? Her youngest was Clair Everett Nelson born in Otranto, Mitchell, Iowa. Could there be a link? Patricia Ehret loqipei@yahoo.com

Debbie is Jim Nelson the son of Valdemar Nielsen? If so, I think I have a connection for you. Patricia loqipei@yahoo.com

Re: Nielsen (Nelson) from Denmark
Hello Debbie, I know that it has been a long time since you posted the former comment. You probably won't read this, but I can't help think about something. I am danish, and I just learned some pretty interesting facts about my ancestors, by my grandfather. My great-great-grandmother, who's name was Dorte Marie, had a brother called Niels Nielsen. Niels Nielsen had 2 sons who immigrated to America (Chicago and Nebraska we think). One of the sons bore the name Valdemar as you mentioned - the other brother bore the name Oscar. Does it ring ANY bell with you???
Kind regards
Sophie Rosendal Stær (Staer)
