The answer in your Greens is in the many different "Romani" populations that joined the Melungeons. It is rare to find a truly German sounding name in the early families. Gluck became Click. Shumacher became Shoemaker. Kok/Koch became Cook. Muller/Moller became Miller. Etc. Etc. Koch also became Cox. All the same "tribe" just with different versions of the same name.
