The answer in your Greens is in the many different "Romani" populations that joined the Melungeons. It is rare to find a truly German sounding name in the early families. Gluck became Click. Shumacher became Shoemaker. Kok/Koch became Cook. Muller/Moller became Miller. Etc. Etc. Koch also became Cox. All the same "tribe" just with different versions of the same name. Zimmerman and Carpenter? Same big family. I'm happy to share whatever I can.
