I am looking for any info on the surname Faro or Pharo from Phila, or Southern NJ area circa 1850's on. My grandfather's grandmother was Mary Eva Pharo born 1850-ish. I have reason to believe her family was Rrom. I really do not know for sure. I mean no disrespect. I am interested because of some experiences I have had of late in a spiritual/metaphysical context. Just trying to solve a family riddle. thank you,
Ravyn

Hello, I know this is a ridiculously late response but I am from the Farnham Surrey area of southern England and I know my family has fairly recent romany origins. The surname Pharo is quite well established in the Farnham area though. Mary Eva is not a name I recognize instantly but I'd be really interested in how your research has progressed in the years since your post.

I too am interested! The name Pharo/Faro can often be seen as Farrar in the VA/NC/KY area. I have seen DNA results that show a "cousins" relationship to the earliest Faa families of the American colonies.

Does anyone know of a Mary Eva Pharo born c. 1854 died after 1936 married to a Samuel Aldolphus Pangburn perhaps living at the time in Cumberland County NJ? These are my grandfather's grandparents and I cannot find any info on Mary Eva's Pharo's family. At one time I did have a scanned copy of her marriage certificate and I thought she listed her father as Timothy Pharo, but I could be mistaken.) She went by the “nickname” Seno (pronounced like 'just SAY NO”) – which could be the short form of Senobia/Senovia (also perhaps spelled: Zenobia/Zenovia, or Xenobia/Xenovia.) Rumors have it she was very small with long black hair that stayed black until her death and that she mixed herbs for medicines. I have no idea what her ethnicity was but my grandfather was I believed baptized Catholic as a baby. Any information would be helpful as this has been a brick wall for me for 20+ years! Thanks!
