Looking for lost relatives who left Bohemia in 19th and 20th centuries from southwest Bohemia (Susice, Macice, Bukovnik, Bilenice, Sobesice, Strasice, Volenice). Allegedly living now somewhere in Michigan or/and Missouri.
Thanks for any information

My name is Thomas Moydell. My Grandfather is full blooded Czech. I am not familiar with the name Mojdl, but I am certainly interested in hearing more about my heritage. The only Moydell's that we know of live primarily in Oklahoma, and a few in Missouri as you mentioned.

Hello Lubor,

My name is Edward Moydell. I am Thomas Moydell's younger brother. I currently live outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. My grandfather, Henry, grew up with three brothers and sisters in Prague, Oklahoma in the 1920's and 1930's. Prague was the Czech settlement in Oklahoma. His parents, Frank and Anna Moydell, (originally Anna Rause) were both full blood Czechs. Several years ago a friend informed my grandfather about the Moydell Funeral Home in Saint Louis, Missouri. These are some of the only relatives we have ever heard about. We in the younger generation have never met them. Although I do not have a personal telephone number for the Moydell Funeral Home, the business address and telephone number is as follows:

MOYDELL FUNERAL HOME
1859 RUSSELL BLVD
Saint Louis, MO 63104-3442

Telephone: 314.772.0401

As my brother mentioned, we would be most interested in hearing more about the Mojdls. The original spelling of the name has been something of a family mystery for years. There are more than twenty Moydells in and around Tulsa, Oklahoma. Some of my grandfather's siblings moved to parts of California. That's about as much as we know.

Thanks very much,

Ed

Edward

I think that MOYDELL (English spelling) when pronounced it would sound as MOJDL in Czech language. You know that English Y makes the J sound in Czech. Do you know where your ancestors were born in "old country"?

I am a descendant of the Moydell's who came to the St. Louis, Missouri area around 1870. From what I can gather Mary, Frank, and Josephine Moydell, along with their mother, came to the St. Louis area from Bohemia. Frank and his sons ran a funeral home and there is still a Moydell Funeral Home in existence in St. Louis today. Mary married Joseph Cepicky and they eventually moved to Portland, Missouri. I am a direct descendant of theirs. Josephine also married and moved to Mexico, Missouri. I have quite a bit of information about the family of Mary Moydell Cepicky. However, I am having trouble tracing anything earlier than her appearance in census records of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Hope this helps anyone who needs it and I would be glad to trade information if anyone would care to. Please feel free to contact me at handdmurphy@earthlink.net.
