Sharon, I know this post is old, but my Morrisons came over around the time of Culloden. I just recently stumbled into a ton of info on my line, a genealogy book written in 1880, going all the way back to the late sixteenth century. I've only just begun the read through it.

Looking for the Morrison's who escaped to America who went down in defeat, along with the Stuarts at the battle of Culloden Moor. The King of England ordered the destruction of our family, Tradition is that the Chief of our Clan was killed at Culloden, but that two of his brothers escaped to America, takeing with them the nine year old son of the chief. This group reached Penna. in 1748 and a few years later moved on to Cabarrus County North Carolina where they settled at Rocky River. In my great aunt's diary the three brothers were (James, William and Robert). The diary say's that our direct decendant is a Richard Tillia Morrison, but that there is no written record of Richard Tillia's move to the section of North Carolina, but shortly after the turn of the 19th century, James Brown, whose sister married into the Morrison family, brought Richard Tillia, his eleven year old nephew with him. The first names of his parents are not known, but his father descended from one of the three brothers who fled to this country after the defeat at Culloden Moor in 1746, We are told that Richard Tillia's mother remarried and nothing more is know of her. It goes on to say, we do not know which brother our Richard Tillia was decended, but beyond a doubt it was one of those who first came to Penna., his Forebearer and ours was CHIEF MORES, who came to the Isle of Lewis when the Scandinavians were in power and colonizing the Northern lands. After many centuries they became an intregral part of the Scotch.. This puzzle has made my head spin trying to find out who Richard Tillia Morrison is, and the circumstances of thier arrival in America. Any Help out there? Thanks for your time, Sharon Morrison

I am of the Clan Morrison of the Isle Of Lewis, Outter Hebrides of Scotland. My mother was Delorse Evelyn Danforth, her grandfather was John Alexandria Morrison. I am also of the family Shearer of Scotland whom predated the Clan system. Interested email me at the above email address. I have participated in several DNA testings thus far and have found out many interesting issues and what my inheritance would have been if we didn't leave Scotland and England.

Thank you,
Debera

Clans and Associations postings

Dear All:

This thread/topic is intended as a forum for the
Clan to post their Notices and the Clan Associations
to post their web sites, notices of meetings and
gatherings. Even Newsletters ( by permission of the
Clan officials) are permitted here.

The correct procedure for posting here is to:
A: do a reply to this message. Erase the subject heading
above and then >
B: enter the name of your association and connection
to the clan.
C: Follow on postings are then replied to that unique
association. I would think that subject and dates
would then be appropriate subject headings.

The intention is to allow the Clan to have a thread
and each respective association to have a thread that
it can maintain with its newsletters and notices.
That way the basic thread of the association can be
referenced by URL in emails and other web sites.

Please forward this message to the Clan headquarters office,
its international associations and
other affiliated groups that may be interested in
posting here. Posting this notice to the Surnames message boards
and Surname mailing list or sending to Secretary of the
Clan, the Clan Associations and the Septs of the Clan
would also be appreciated.

Best Regards
John A Hansen
Board Admin

Dear All:

Please start a separate sub-thread under this
thread ( just do a reply) for each Clan ancestor.

The thread on this board (and the mailing list) is intended for
comments, hints on how to locate, and discussions
on those distant ancestors ( sometimes brick walls) that are
very hard to locate. Anyone with knowledge of the
Clan Ancestors or searching for ancestors and especially
the Clan Genealogist are especially encouraged to post
their finding on the Clan ancestors.

Please do not use this board for merely looking for
recent descendants. That function is better in the
Surname message boards and mailing lists.

Use the standard procedure in the subject header of
inserting your family ancestor information in the following format
NAME > location > dates

Best Wishes and Happy Hunting to All

John A Hansen
Board Admin
