My maiden name is Allison. I'm looking for connection to a Scottish ancestor named Robert Allison, who settled in Bedford county TN.

Dear John,
I am the co-ordinator of the Allison/Ellison DNA Project with Family Tree DNA. Several participants trace their ancestry back to Lanarkshire, Scotland. There is a family tradition that says that Allisons were part of the Clan Mac Alister several hundred years ago but we lack "paper trail" evidence.

Some of the Allisons in the DNA project have DNA scores very similar to participants in the Hamilton DNA project. Those Hamilton men also have Lanarkshire roots. We know there were marriages between Allison men and Hamilton women in the 1600s and later in Lanarkshire, but that would not account for similar Y-chromosome DNA scores.

Does the ongoing Scottish Clans DNA project have members who are descendants of Clan MacAlister and Clan Hamilton? Is there a similarity in their DNA scores?

Is there a website that shows the results of the Scottish Clans DNA project? We are working on the development of an Allison/Ellison DNA Project Results webpage.

Clan, Sept, and Surnames URL's and Reference Web Sites

This thread is intended for posting of current URLS of other
web-sites that have information on the history or information
on the Surname or Clan. These web sites can include
archives, libraries, or just the Clan or Sept web site etc
So Clan Secretaries can keep this thread current or just
a interested member of the surname that has the
web site for their own family.

Clan and Associations postings

Dear All:

This thread/topic is intended as a forum for the
Clan to post their Notices and the Clan Associations
to post their web sites, notices of meetings and
gatherings. Even Newsletters ( by permission of the
Clan officials) are permitted here.

The correct procedure for posting here is to:
A: do a reply to this message. Erase the subject heading
above and then >
B: enter the name of your association and connection
to the clan.
C: Follow on postings are then replied to that unique
association. I would think that subject and dates
would then be appropriate subject headings.

The intention is to allow the Clan to have a thread
and each respective association to have a thread that
it can maintain with its newsletters and notices.
That way the basic thread of the association can be
referenced by URL in emails and other web sites.

Please forward this message to the Clan headquarters office,
its international associations and
other affiliated groups that may be interested in
posting here. Posting this notice to the Surnames message boards
and Surname mailing list or sending to Secretary of the
Clan, the Clan Associations and the Septs of the Clan
would also be appreciated.

Ancestors postings

Dear All:

Please start a separate sub-thread under this
thread ( just do a reply) for each Clan ancestor.

The thread on this board (and the mailing list) is intended for
comments, hints on how to locate, and discussions
on those distant ancestors ( sometimes brick walls) that are
very hard to locate. Anyone with knowledge of the
Clan Ancestors or searching for ancestors and especially
the Clan Genealogist are especially encouraged to post
their finding on the Clan ancestors.

Please do not use this board for merely looking for
recent descendants. That function is better in the
Surname message boards and mailing lists.

Use the standard procedure in the subject header of
inserting your family ancestor information in the following format
NAME > location > dates
