SMITH FAMILY OF FRANKLIN CO, VA

Looking any Smiths from Franklin Co, VA. My g-g grandfather was Kalib Smith. He married Sarah Jane English. They had the following children:

Marcellus 'Marse' Smith m Mary 'Ella' Dudley
Mary Frances 'Fannie' Smith m John Paul William Smith
Tom Smith m Belle Smith
Bettie Smith m Pank Robertson
Benjamin Smith m Victoria Kate Hancock
Kalib 'Gus' Smith m ?
Lula Belle Smith m Robert Ebenezer Smith
Cora Smith m Alexander Hancock
Emmett Smith m Dolly Law
William 'Will' A Smith m (1)Annie Belle Craft; (2)Belle Reynolds
John T Smith m ?

Kalib Smith's mother was supposedly Lucy Smith. She was white and Indian. There is a Smith Mountain in Franklin Co, VA. Family lore says that Smith Mtn belongs to my family. There was an Indian woman named Betty who married a white man named Hans Smith. Hans died first and the white people ran Betty and her children off of the land. Every generation has a John, William, and Betty. Some of their children married black and some married white.

It is said that Gus Smith's family is somewhere in NC. Emmett Smith died young and his daughters married young after he died.

Does any of this sound familiar to anyone? I am at a brick wall with my g-grandmother's side of the family.

Thanks.

I could not find any Hans Smith in any census. The only Caleb Smith I found in the 1860 census was a white family. Do you know when Betty or Lucy Smith died? Would they still have been alive in the 1870 census?

There is info on a "Smith Mountain Lake" in Franklin Co VA. Search on google for info.

This is not my family but I hope this is helpful.
