Lookup online death certificates at http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#start Find Richmond Martin in 1870 Polk-Subdivision 21-Images 6 & 7 and 1880 Chambers-Wallisville-20-Image 5. I suspect you probably have one or both and are researching Milah (Martin) Godfrey? DYK? Sharing information enhances research e.g. makes it easier. Joseph Godfrey Sr. was born in Texas about 1844 to Zachariah/Zack Godfrey and Martha Mayes. I am not related. Add timelines and locations if known. Many people have the same/similar names and/or birthdates. Providing additional information, such as names of children, helps to focus on the "right person/people".

FYI! Kirk Bell(1834), wife Clara(1835), and daughters Henrietta(1853) and Ann(1860) were born in Virginia per 1870 census. They probably settled in Texas 1860-1862 based on the age of son Kerley? There are no slaveowners listed in 1850 and 1860 Cass County. Perhaps they came as "free persons"?

I'm confused!!! Esau/Esaw Bell was married to Mary Sparks and one of their sons was Esau/Esaw Jr. Kirk Bell was Esau/Esaw Sr.'s father? FYI. Cass County was briefly renamed Davis prior to the Civil War. It reverted back to Cass County for the 1880 Census. Search 1870 Davis-Precinct 1-Page 44 to find: Kirk Bell(36), Claria(35), Henrietta(17), Ann(10), Kerley(8), Lestia/Leslie(6), and Cora(2). The parents and two eldest children were born in Virginia. That indicates the family arrived in Texas 1860-1862. Kirk Bell was born about 1834 so you'll probably have to search for parents and siblings in Virginia? In case you don't have it, find 1880 Cass-Precinct 1-District 10-Page 69 and 1900 Cass-Precinct 1-District 20-Page 11. Kirk Bell remarried to Malissa Green on 30 Mar 1885 in Cass County. Best wishes and I am not related!

well, it took a lot longer than i would have liked...life has a habit of taking over sometimes...but i finally got copies of the two articles related to Grandma Fannie's murder in 1946. sure enough, in both articles she's listed with the last name of Davis instead of Brown. now a new branch of the mystery begins, because i have no idea when she became a Davis. also, Grandpa Pink died in 1952. when i found his grave site several years ago, he & Fannie are buried together in Center Cemetery (Tyler, TX) under the same headstone, with the last name of Brown.

I have Middlebrooks in my family tree, but they mostly resided in Chickasw Co, Ms. In a census record I found a Gilbert Middlebrooks who lived in TX and was born in MS. Gilbert is a family name. I know this is a long shot, but did any of your Middlebrooks migrate from AL or MS?
Thanks.

Hi. I'm researching my family tree and I've become stuck at my great-great-great grandfather, George Johnson. He was born in 1850 in Georgia. All I know is that he married my great-great-great grandmother Amelia and they had their first child in 1868. I can't find him anywhere before the 1870 census.

Victoria, TX - Elvin Wade & Mamie Haynes

Afro-American family both born in Texas, and married in Texas. Elvin Wade was born in 1892 in Victoria County, and he married Mamie Haynes possibly before 1915. . . .

In 1930 they have the following children living in Victoria County, Texas:
1) Isaac Wade 1915-1961 Victoria Co.
2) Olivia Wade 1917 TX
3) Horace Wade 1918 TX
4) Pearl Wade 1920 TX
5) Elmo Wade 1922 TX
6) Estelle Wade 1924 TX . . . .

I think their daughter PEARL WADE born 1920 married in Victoria County to GEORGE DANIEL LANGLEY JR. And, Pearl and George had twins born in 1938 Named Georgia & George Jr., they also had a daughter born in 1940. . . .

ELVIN WADE is the son of HORACE WADE and LIZZE NEWSOME. When Elvin's mother, LIZZIE NEWSOME was about 16 yrs old she had a daughter born in 1882, she named her
PEARL. . . .

ELVIN WADE's mother, LIZZIE NEWSOME married HORACE WADE on
August 3, 1883 in Victoria County, Texas. . . .

So, PEARL born 1882 to LIZZIE NEWSOME is ELVIN WADE's half-sister. PEARL's Father was VONLEY JEFFERY. And, he is listed as her Father on her Death Certificate (on PEARL'S DEATH CERTIFICATE). . . .

Does anyone know when VONLEY JEFFERY was born, about what year? When he died? Where he died? Please contact me if you have any information to share on these families. Thank you.

Hi,

I'm married to a Canadian man 1/2 back & 1/2 Scottish. His last name is Washington & he has no idea where his black ancestry came from. Together we have a beautiful blond haired blue eye baby (we are told repeatedly should be in magazines). She bears more Euro resemblance than African.

Aside from that we are interested in discovering if our child has any traceable African ancestry. Information my husband can't offer.

Please write back.

Thank you,
Krista Zima

The plantation was Laurel Hill Plantation located between Coldsprings and Evergreen, TX. Surnames Shields, Nichols, Lee, Norman, Reed, Jackson, Bordeaux, Armstrong, Jordan, Ruffin, Roundtree, Bonds, Pellum, Lewis, Wamsis, Blanks, Walker, and Gordon are some of the names of the slaves on the plantation of John Karnes, Sr. He was given a Spanish Grant of land in 1818 and when Mexico was liberated from Spain, his grant was recognized in 1821. Vicente Guerrero was the Liberator, but because his mother was African and he was to have been too illiterate to rule the country, so he was betrayed by Santa Ana. It was the Blacks, slaves and Freemen who made this happen. Yet, However, due to President e Guerrero abolishing slavery in Mexico that included Texas, many slaves entered Tejas as runaways. Spanish Records and Documents from the late 1700's have given me a great deal of information that reaches beyond Austin and the Old 300 or Hadnot Edwards. VW

I just found your post and if you have the slave list, please email it to me. My g-g grandmother was Malindy Washington, whose grand father, Ben Washington was President George Washington's servant and was freed upon his death. His son, Chase Washington was stolen and resold into slavery in MS. Chase and Patient Douglas Washington were Malindy's parents. After slavery was abolished, Malindy and her husband Albert Phlegm returned to MS and brought their loved ones back to Texas.

Hi, I was able to find out more information from Clay Gullatt. As Govnor/Grovsnor/Govenor was my GGGreat-Grandfather and your Great-Grandfather he was born in Atlanta to Charles. (I have more info on his mother at home)Charles had three sons. Two with the african/black lady and one with his white wife. The Gullatt's are from Vauffelin, in the Canton of Berne Switzerland a French speaking province and not from France. Charles Gullatt would be an uncle to Clay Gullatt. I found one last survivor from Govenor's son Tillman that still leaves in Bowie County Texas. Clay gave me a lot more info showing the connection. Talk to you later Aunt D Love Shell
