Came across this post via a quick google, not sure if the thread is still active. One of my distant relatives, I believe married a descendant of Rose Gatliff.
Her name was Jessie L Gatliff (1882-1959 born in Chillicothe and died in Toledo, OH she married a 4th great uncle of mine - William Allen Jones). Jessie's father was John Henry Gatliff Jr. (1852-1921 died in Chillicothe, OH). Her mother was Amanda Goins.
John Jr's father was John Henry Gatliff Sr. (1825-1910 died in Chillicothe, OH). His mother was Cynthia (1824-1913).
I am trying to determine the identity of the father of John Henry Gatliff Sr. who I believe is the son of Rose Gatliff.
John Sr.'s wife Cynthia was enumerated in Rockcastle County Kentucky in 1860 and in 1850. In 1850, she lived in the same household as "Roseanne" Gatliff born approximately 1772 in Virginia. The head of household listed was Margaret Gatliff born approximately 1802.
Edited to add that one of Jessie Gatliff's son's - William (Bill) McNeil Jones was one of the first black men to integrate professional basketball in the 1940s. He is also in the athletic hall of fame at the University of Toledo.
UPDATE 3/3/17 I downloaded a Kindle copy of the book from Amazon and it answered my question in regards to the marriage of John H Gatliff Sr. and Cynthia being that John Sr took Cynthia's surname. So the Toledo branch of Rose's descendants are related to her primarily though Cynthia's maternal line.
Thank you for the information and published book. I don't believe the family knew of this story and I will seek out some of her descendants in this area to share it with them.
