Hello,
I am researching a friends ancestors, who were slaves in Sharon,Mecklenberg,N.Carolina.
His name was Peter Ray(Rea,Rey,Ray). I found him and his family through the 1870-1910 census. I couldn't find them in the 1860 census, but I found possibilities in the 1860 slave schedule. In the 1870,1880 census Peter's year of birth is listed as abt 1828,1830, respectively
I found the attached record in the
"Slave Registers of former British Colonial Dependencies, 1812-1834"
This is the link at Acom:
http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?indiv=1&db=Br...
Peter Ray is the first name listed under John Taylor Esquire.(mid page)Peter Ray's estimated year of birth is listed as abt 1828,
It appears to be a listing of slaves owned by John Taylor, either, like a census or for transport.
My obvious question is,
could this Peter Ray,born abt 1828,
be my Peter Ray born abt 1828(in the 1870 census)?
Could anybody shed some light on this record and whether its even possible to connect it to my friends family?

Thank you for any assistance offered,
Brian
