PCrabtree1976 and HL2604, thank you for the head's up about what you're coming across. I'll be taking a closer look at those tonight, and am surprised by the mention of some of the census areas not being present. I read about how a good deal of the 1890 census is missing, but hadn't thought about issues with other years.
The idea of naming patterns is also a great point; I know from immediate family, examples of this happening, with aunts/uncles and grandparents, so I'm excited at the prospect of keeping that in mind when looking now. I will let you know if I come across similar instances of that. Will track down the sources you mentioned, now :)
