Not sure if I provided this information before .
My MANN/MANNS family members were buried in Laurel.
I sent for the
death Certificates through one of the the state of Maryland website and they were very helpful.

One clue was given to me by a family friend. They told me that the MANNS family was from KENT, Maryland. She told me that when some families lived out of a major city like Baltimore they may have called themselves MANN. When they moved to Baltimore, they changed theeir name to MANNS,
Another Exsample : Pinders changed to Pinderhughes

I've found some very informative articles from the Baltimore Afro-American newspaper that describe Laurel Cemetery's "run-down" status in 1945, demolition in 1958, and subsequent lawsuits in 1960-61. The first two articles have accompanying photos. I'd be glad to send the .pdf files of these to anyone interested.

Yes, it is called the Maryland State Archives Death Indexing Project. The web site is located at: http://www.mdvitalrec.net/ although the server is often down. If the server is working, you can search online for the person by year of death and their name in alphabetical order. Once the name is found, it will refer to a death certificate nunber which you can order from the Maryland State Archives for $25.00. $25.00 is pretty steep, but it does list some interesting info. about the deceased person.

Laurel Cemetery in Baltimore City, Maryland - Demolished;
Mt. Zion Cemetery in Landsdowne, Baltimore County - Still Opened; Historic Mt Aurburn Cemetery in Baltimore City, Maryland has been in need of major repairs for several decades now...with the help of MD Governor Martin O'Malley
and others at least the cemetery has recently been fashioned with a new exterior fencing, railing, paved sidewalks, new tree plantings, regular grass cutting but work is still desperately needed to (its interior landscape) make this old cemetery whole again.

I did a search on Google for:

Father "Charles R Uncles"

and there are lots of hits and even a You-Tube about a street and building that was named for him.

The wikipedia info does not have any more info than what you have but you might want to look at it.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Uncles

Also on the search I got this article from Baltimore Sun

http://articles.baltimoresun.com/2010-12-03/news/bs-md-kelly...
================================
The best result in the search is this.
...Father Uncles is the first negro to have been ordained in the Catholic priesthood in the United
States. He was so ordained Dec. 20, 1891, and on Dec. 20 of this year [1916] will celebrate his
jubilee as a member of the priesthood. The ceremonies attendant on this jubilee will be participated
in by Cardinal Gibbons, who, from the beginning of Father Uncles’ career, has manifested a strong
personal interest in his advancement.3
Shortly after the celebration of the silver jubilee of Uncles’ priesthood, an article about him appeared in
The Brooklyn Tablet (vol. XIII no. 41) for January 13, 1917.4 Therein, Uncles identified himself as a
teacher of Latin and French at Epiphany College, the preparatory school for St. Joseph’s Seminary in
Baltimore.5 He stated his date of birth as November 6, 1859, and asserted (contrary to some other sources)
that his parents and grandparents were all free Negroes. His father, he stated, had been a machinist with the
Baltimore & Ohio Railroad, while his mother was still living. He had been baptized (1875) and confirmed
(1878) at St. Francis Xavier Church, a Roman Catholic parish church with a predominantly black congregation
at Calvert and Pleasant Streets in Baltimore.6 From 1874 to 1879 he had been occupied as a printer
and a journalist, and thereafter as a printer. He also taught at St. Francis Xavier’s parish school as well as
in the public schools. In 1880, he became a teacher in Baltimore County schools, before commencing his
preparation for the priesthood at St. Hyacinth’s College in Quebec in 1883. He returned to Baltimore in
1888 to enter St. Joseph’s Seminary to prepare for his ordination.
What we can find of Uncles and his family in the U.S. census generally confirms the facts he provided
to his interviewer from The Brooklyn Tablet. In the 1880 U.S. census of Baltimore, Maryland (Precinct 1,
Ward 19), Lorenza Uncles, age 50, a blacksmith, was living with his wife, Annie, age 32, a dress maker,
and their sons Randolph, age 20, a barber, and Norman, age 6. Everyone in the household was born in
Maryland of Maryland-born parents and had their race recorded as mulatto. In the 1890 Baltimore city
directory, Lorenzo Uncles, a laborer, was recorded at 614 Saratoga Court. In the 1900 U.S. census of
Baltimore, Maryland (Precinct 2, Ward 17), C. R. Uncles, born November 1859, was recorded as a teacher
at Epiphany Apostolic College. His race was recorded as black. In the same year, his parents, brother and
sister-in-law were recorded at 1116 Woodyear Street in Ward 18 of Baltimore: Olonzo Uncles, born
October 1820, blacksmith; wife Annie Uncles, born April 1844 (the mother of 7 children, 2 living); son
Norman Uncles, born March 1877, railroad porter; daughter-in-law Martha Uncles, born May 1876 (the
mother of 1 child, not living). Everyone in the household was recorded as colored. Olonzo and Annie had
been married forty years; Norman and Martha, three years. In the 1910 and 1920 U.S. censuses, Charles R.
Uncles was again recorded as a clergyman at Epiphany Apostolic College in Baltimore; his race in these
censuses was recorded as mulatto. In the 1930 U.S. census, Charles R. Uncles, age 70, was recorded as a
priest at Epiphany Apostolic College in New Windsor, Orange County, New York. Maryland-born of
Maryland-parents, his race in the 1930 census was recorded as negro. Uncles’ widowed mother Annie
Uncles, age 88, was recorded as a boarder at St. Frances’ Convent and Orphanage in Baltimore in the 1920
U.S. census. Her race was recorded as mulatto.7...
--------
The above text comes from "The Fossils" pdf file. The file also has a picture of him.
http://www.thefossils.org/fossil/fos352.pdf

It is important that I find a relative of Bernard, son of Tecumseh and Alice (Hill) Woodland of Baltimore City, Maryland. Bernard, a paratrooper, died in Belgium on 26 Sept. 1944 from wounds suffered on 21 Sept. in Nijmegen, Holland as a result of his participation in Operation Market Garden with the 82nd airborne division. Bernard is honored on a plaque in Nijmegen along with my uncle and the 46 other paratroopers who gave up their lives for the liberation of southern Holland.

Mrs. Kathleen Buttke

Hi, Stephanie,
I made a mistake. But we are still cousins. It is my GG grandfather John who had a brother named Darius. I have found at least 5 of them, John, Ann, Helen Hester & Darius. Darius is a family name so anyway we look at it, we are cousins off one of the Prather Ancestors. Let me know what you find out and PLEASE call me or email. I will be in service this morning from 9-1030 and this evening from 6-830 but will call you if you leave a message.
Oh, my dad had a cousin Leo Prather he was very close to who lived in Pittsburgh & Dick of Bill (can't remember which) Prather who lived in Maryland, both of which I visited often when we came to the east coast in the 50's & 60's. Do you know either of them? Will search to see who their parents were & let you know. OOOOHHHH! I am so excited!
Val

I hadn't had time to search in a while, building a business (@60! isn't God good?) so I am just getting a chance to open your post. I almost missed it! Yes I am sure my grandfather & your grandfather are cousins! I went to one Prather/Brown reunion in the 70's and that is when I received the family tree I've been using to research. My grandmother was a Brown and I have her line, but my dad wasn't a historian & didn't know too much about his dad's side. Call me 501-310-2013 or email last5psalms@aol.com. We have years to catch up on.

Hello,

First the FREE ones:

1. If you enter GOOGLE NEWS ARCHIVE ADVANCED into your search engine you will be able to enter a family members name, a date range and under SOURCE enter AFRO. Upon doing a list will generate an article summary with links to AFRO AMERICAN newspaper that included the name.

2. Maryland Death Records
http://mdvitalrec.net/cfm/dsp_search.cfm
This will give your the name and date of death for a family member in Baltimore City 1875-1972 and the counties in Maryland 1910-1951. Please note this is a labor intensive website. You can only key in the name of a person during the mid 1940s and get results. For everyone else you will have read page after after page by years. Its in somewhat alphabetical order. Best used if you know the year someone died but not the exact date. You can get that date using this.

3.http://www.interment.net/
Very good for cemetery records. Not every cemetery record in the country is listed here as the information provided is given by volunteers but I have found a lot of stuff. It is a national registry.

Charged:

1. www.baltimoresun.com
They have an archive. Its weird and can cost a bit. However, they have scanned copies of almost all their papers on file. Yet, the summaries you get when looking for something SUCKS!!! Out of 10 paid records only two actually applied to my family. $32 for two records. BUT, now I do searches, write down the limited summary information they give like date and location in the paper, then head the Enoch Pratt library to see if they have the copy on micro.

2. Funeral Homes
DO NOT SLEEP ON THIS ONE!!! They keep the funeral obituaries for years, decades. My step mom turned me on to this one. If you can get the obituaries you can get a lot of information about your family. People tend to put the names of everyone the person who passed was close to.

YES! How wonderful that you decided to respond. Yes according to what I have traced so far, Darius is a family name and appears in our tree several times. Family has become so important to me since my father passed in '04 when I realized how cut off our family would be without ancestral information since cousin-ship is all we will have as the elders pass on. I would love to keep in touch with you. My cell phone is 501-310-2013 and I live in Little Rock with my husband Bennie, daughter Tekoah & 11 month old twin grandsons & a Rottweiler. I am an ordained minister - Full Counsel Ministries, Int'l. and have an internet ministry www.hopeasistahout.com. reaching out to the Body teaching who we really are in Christ. I have a business, www.YabalSCLLC.com that is a year old. I inherited it when my former boss decided to leave the business when his wife became ill. Besides the Lord, I love sweets - especially when I bake them, rollerskating, football, golf (play but not very well)and America's Next Top Model & not in any order for the latter 5 (lol). I'll be 61 in March & very active. My husband & I enjoy life. I have one brother, Zachary Prather who lives in Switzerland and is an accomplished blues musician and songwriter. He is the usual lead act when Mick Jagger goes to Mustique Island every year. I will send you pics. Call or email me - last5psalms@aol.com, or my business email since I check it daily - Yabalsc@aol.com.
Hello,

I see that this post is old but I just found it by chance when doing a Google search and I must be a distant cousin! My mother is Gloria Prather Harris and she is the eldest daughter of Darius Prather III who's father was most likely your grandfather's brother! My grandfather was 1 of 9 brothers and sisters. We are very close with that side of the family particularly my grandfather's brothers and sisters since we never had the chance to know my grandfather personally due to his untimely death when my mother was only 9. My mother is the eldest of 5 and I am her youngest daughter. There are several of us scattered around the Maryland, DC and Virginia area. If you are still checking this post I would love to hear from you!

Love,

Your Cousin - Stephanie White

hello

We may be distantly related via marriage. I have traced my Gould ancestors also to Centreville. My mother was born in a little town called Gouldtown.

I do have an Abe Rozier on my tree. He married my ancestor Gladys Handy. He was born about 1901. His mother Bertha Rozier and his grandparents William and Laura Rozier all from QA county.

Good luck with your research efforts
Bernice

Last year in the local newspaper they had an article about Father Uncles. My family has "adopted" him and we visit him. I've been trying to find out if he has any relatives. He was born in Baltimore, Md on November 8, 1859. And passed away in New Windsor,NY 1933. He co-founded Society of St. Joseph, they were called the Josephites. I looked at their website but I'm not sure if they would give out personal info. That's why I'm looking up the public records here.

Please if anyone has info let me know. Thanks for reading.

Mt auburn is right off the balto wash expressway. It is very overgrown and was not well taken care of. Laurel cemetary, portions have been moved and it is also in poor condition. If you google both, there should be a baltimore sun article on both.

Thank you for your response. There were Hebrons in Baltimore from eons ago, and many did migrate there from verious counties in Maryland, and aslo Virginia. A great uncle on my mother's side married and raised his family in Baltimore. I will check for a "John" connection. Thanks again, and I wish much success in your search.

Hi Obeisance9, I don't know if this will help you but I went to Union Baptist Church in Balto city most of my life and the sexton there was John T. Hebron. His wifes name was Minnie. He was at that church for about 50 years and he lived in the 1200 block of Lafayette ave in Balto. Both he and his wife have since passed on, they were really up in age. He had some children. They were all older than meand i don't remember their names, but he had a grandson named Michael Smith who should be about 45 by now. Mr Hebron told me he came from one of the counties. I hope this helps you
