I'm a transplanted Texan residing in Delaware. African American genealogy in the two states is as different as night and day. 1870 Census was the first to include newly freed slaves in Texas. In contrast, I've tried (unsuccessfully) to interest some of my Delaware associates in genealogy. I can trace several families to the first census with births prior to the American Revolution. Ever hear of the "Patty Cannon Gang" that operated on the Eastern Shore of Maryland? They kidnapped people, slave or free, and sold them into bondage.
