Burial of Charlotte Brown b. 1850 GA d. bet. 1890 and 1 June 1900 Thomasville GA

Hi All.

Charlotte Brown (*not* the daughter of Henry Blackshear) appears in the Thomasville census records 1870-1880. Her husband, William Brown, b. abt. 1850 Baltimore?, was widowed by 1900.

After checking with the Thomasville Genealogical History & Fine Arts Library and finding no record of Charlotte's burial, we are hopeful family or acquaintances of the Brown family could help with burial information.

Some background on Charlotte is that she might have been a cook. A Charlotte Brown, age 22, a cook, appears in the 1870 Thomasville household of Polly Hansell, age 62, born in Va., also a cook. In addition, James Jarrid, 19, a laborer, & Clara Jarrid, 18, a cook, resided in Polly's household.

Charlotte's daughter, Ada Brown (1880-1960), became a cook, which might indicate the Charlotte Brown in Polly's home is our Charlotte of interest.

After Charlotte's death, the family remained in Thomasville. They lived on McLean Avenue.

Children of Charlotte Brown and William Brown, with estimated birth dates, are as follows:

Timothy Brooks b. abt 1870 d. 1938
James Brown b. 1871
Lizzie Brown b. 1872
Hattie Brown Montgomery b. Sep 1873 d. 1924
Juck b. 1873
William Brown Jr. b. May 1875 or 1886 d. 1924
Walter Brown b. Sep 1879 (son-in-law of Maggie & Harvey Ross) d. 1922
Ada Brown b. May 1880 Thomasville, GA d. 1960 Palm Beach County, FL
Willie Brown b. Feb 1883
Ida Brown Gaines b. 1884
Mamie Brown b. Aug 1887
John Brown 1890-1962

Best regards,

Bonnie

Hi my name is Valyncia Morrison and I live in Daytona Beach, Florida and for years I have been intrigued with my family genealogy. I resently started my quest in May of 2010. I am currently researching my family genealogy records on my mothers paternal and maternal sides of the family.I am requested research of any documentation of the family members listed.

They are listed on the 1870, 1880,1900 Census Harris County
James Greenleaf b1813 or 1816 Georgia(I have seen two dates)
Louisa Greenleaf b1828 Georgia

I also found what I have been searching for quite some time now was my mothers great-grandparents on her maternal side on the Twelfth Census of the United States: 1900 Schedule No. 1 Population for Harris County, Georgia, Cataula District 696.

George Thornton b1853
He was only found on the 1900 census I need more information on the rest of his family.
He married Corrie " " Thornton b1864 they married in 1879. I need to know her maiden name so I can research her family. I currently have found two other census for George T. Thornton.

I recently found my great great great grandmother on the 1870 census in Harris County, Georgia. Her name is Delphia Greenleaf born in 1790 in Africa. But this is the only listed record.
I need to know the names of the land owners in Georgia in 1790 and earlier 1800s to established a connection with surnames. I need to find more information on Delphia Greenleaf. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

I am looking for any descendants with any additional information on these family ancestors.

You can send a response to business103@hotmail.com
Sincerely,

Valyncia Morrison

I have slowed down in my research as a back-up. I was told-Milton Smith married Hattie Price, their grandson married a Grimsley who I think may have come from Alabama. That line is also in Clay Co. GA. Again I have not did the census search for myself.

Sincerely,
D

Would Hattie be the nickname of Harriet? I have 2 Harriet Smiths. They both were products of unions between a Price and a Smith. Also I have Grimsleys in the family.

Saundra Brown, saundra_b_2001@yahoo.com

African American Henyards in Walton County

I'm trying to find any information on African American families with the surname Henyard in Walton county.

My Grand Aunt, Mattie Henyard Martin, was my grandmother's older half sister. Based on DNA results as well as old family letters, I know that my Grand Aunt was my Great Grandmother's child and not my Great Grandfather's.

I believe that finding out additional information about the Henyards will help me in locating my Great Grandmother prior to 1900.

At the time that my great grandparents married, my great grandmother's name was Frances (Fannie) White. My Great Grandfather was Cornelius Pierce. After my Great Grandfather's death (14 May 1910), my Great Grandmother married a B. F. Sanford.

Additional information for Grand Aunt Mattie Henyard is as follows:

Born - abt 1885
Death: 18 Oct 1918
Marriage to Thomas "Tom" Martin on 4 Jan 1903

Grand Aunt Mattie may have been reared by her Grand Aunt, Sarah Robertson or Robinson. Based on census records, she never lived in the household of my Great Grandparents.

To date, I've been unable to locate any marriage records or other records that would indicate my Great Grandmother's surname was Henyard at the time Mattie was born.

Any information or tips anyone can provide will be greatly appreciated.
Hello Rebeccfaleenyc,

Thank you for responding to my message from 2002. Long time, Yes? :) I am still doing research with this family and have made many wonderful discoveries. Even though I still don't have all the answers, It has been a wonderful journey into the past. Your information was encouraging, as I have never been able to figure out any info on the "Deves" name. It was given to my gr uncle as a middle name (surname was Bass) and seems to be related to some possible "French" origin. His family was one of the first of our family to move from Georgia to New York around the 1920s. I will check out the info you sent and see if I can come up with a possible connection. Thank you so much for sharing. Please let me know if more info comes to light, and I will do the same. Sincerely, Mabel Brown.:)
Hello Lace_Lynch,

Thank you for the Post, but you have placed it on the wrong Board; this is Greene County, Georgia not Meriwether County, Georgia. Perhaps, you may want to Post it on the Meriwether County Board where it would be more applicable.

Greensboro24
