Bishop David Eugene Drone, 78, departed this life on June 5, 2011 after a brief illness.

Bishop Drone, the son of the late Bishop T. W. and Clara Belle Drone, was born in Waycross, Georgia.

Bishop Drone attended Robinson Elementary School and graduated from East High School. While attending East he was member of the golf team.
Bishop Drone was no stranger to work. As a young boy he shined shoes in downtown Akron, and was a caddy in Georgia. As time progressed he was hired as a tire builder at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. He was promoted to supervisor, and retired in 1986 in custodial maintenance.

In his early years, Bishop Drone sang with the quartet ``The Gospel Ambassadors.' He remembered traveling to West Virginia to sing. He was a lover of good music, especially quartet singing. His marquee songs were ``He Looked Beyond My Faults,' ``I Won't Complain' and ``I Can't Let a Day Go By' along with many other songs in his repertoire.

Bishop Drone acknowledged his call to the ministry at the age of 13 and preached his first sermon, ``I'll Go', at age 25. Bishop Drone received his pastoral training from his father, the late Bishop T. W. Drone, and the Church of the Living God under the late Bishop A. H. White. He was president of the National Youth Congress of The Church of the Living God for many years and recently served as President General.

His first pastoral appointment was in Warren, Ohio. After several months of pastoring, he named the church ``The Temple of Love' which reflected the character of Bishop Drone who administrated with wisdom and love. After several years of pastoring in Warren his father, the late Bishop T.W. Drone, appointed him pastor of Faith Temple Church in Akron, Ohio.

Bishop Drone partnered with the late Rev. Elvin Brown and co-hosted a Christian radio program. In the 70's he started an all night New Year's Eve program to bring area churches together in the community. Under his leadership, Faith Temple Church grew and relocated from 1115 Milton Street to the present location at 701 Sylvan.

He was preceded in death by parents, Bishop T.W. and Clara Belle Drone and brother, Thomas Drone.
