Hi Sharyn. The download of the

From our website:
"In 1810, a male child was born on a plantation in the state of
GEORGIA. He was given the name of KING. Between the years of 1805 and 1820, a female child was born on a plantation in the state of
VIRGINIA. She was given the name of RACHAEL. King and Rachael were born into slavery. Slavery in the states of
GEORGIA and
VIRGINIA was a profitable economic enterprise. The research strongly supports the hypothesis that King had several last names (slave) as
Blacks were frequently sold from plantation to plantation and given the last name of the plantation owner. After the Emancipation Proclamation (1863), King, a very proud and strong willed man, chose to reclaim the name of his natural father:
ATLAS.
During the early 1840's, King and Rachael were enslaved by the same plantation owner. The plantation was located in the
Parish of "
Carroll," (now East
Carroll) in the city of Lake Providence, in the state of
Louisiana. It was during this time that King and Rachael began their family. They begot six children that were all born before the Emancipation Proclamation. King and Rachael DAY (last name of her natural father) were married as citizens of the United States on November 24, 1866. Their marriage was recorded in Lake Providence on September 2, 1867."
Their children were King
ATLAS Jr., John
ATLAS, Sr., William
ATLAS, Sr., Andrew
ATLAS, Sarah
ATLAS and Thomas
ATLAS. I have been able to trace King, Andrew and William to present day. In addition, I was able to trace John and Sarah at least one to two generations past them. I have yet to find any information on Thomas, although I have not ruled out that this may be a duplicate record, as King Jr. had a son named Thomas, and some family members may have gotten King confused with his father.
I am currently researching which plantation we were on, as well as possible family members we may have in CA and MS. It is believed that several family members made their way out to CA during the late 1800's and early 1900's, and I'm not sure where in CA they came to. I have record of 641 family members, 9 generations, and 121 different surnames that come from King and Rachel.
I hope I answered all of your questions!
