Looking for Miller's in the Birmingham, Alabama area.

I'm looking for information about my grandmother, paternal side, Lorine Miller.

I have information for my grandmother from 1954 (married my grandfather Jimmie Louis Hatcher) until 1998 (when she passed away in Birmingham, Alabama). She was born on July 25, 1933 (and I assume it was in Birmingham, Alabama or the surrounding area). She had two brother's, Charles and James Miller. I have no information on Charles and the only information for James is that he was probably born before 1940, fought in the Korean and possibly Vietnam War as well. He married a woman named Chris (deceased and maiden name unknown), they had a daughter (name unknown) and he passed before 2005.

In regards to ethnicity, we are African-American with unknown mixed origins. My father has always refereed to my grandmother as Lena Horne, since she had fair skin and could easily pass for white, if she choose. Recently he has said that he believe's either her grandmother (his 1XGreat-grandmother/my 2XGreat-grandmother) or mother was half-black/half-white, but I have no names for them.

So I'm needing any sort of resource help that could lead me to possible census or birth records or people who may know anything about this Miller family line.

Surname Hatcher, African-Americans.

I'm looking for any information on my Grandfather and my Great-Grandfather. Jimmie Hatcher is my grandfather on my dad's side, and George Hatcher is his father. I'm looking for names, locations, records, etc. that can tell me more about my grandfather's family.

Jimmie Louis Hatcher was born in Bessemer, Alabama on July 31, 1930. He served in the military (Army), married Lorine (Lorraine) Miller and had 8 children. I have information for him, via records, from 1951 (when he joined the military) to 2004 (when he passed away in Birmingham, Alabama). I'm trying to find records from 1930 to 1951, hoping that this will give me leads about his family.

His father, George Hatcher, I know nothing about outside of his name and very few family information. I know, from family, that this side has possible Native American roots and that he was from or lived in Florida and then moved to Alabama (or it could be the other way around). I don't know anything about his family, if he married or had any other children outside of my grandfather Jimmie. I figured that he was probably born before 1915 (since that put's him anywhere from 15 years or older, at the time of my grandfathers birth) and that he probably died before 1965 (my father was born that year and said he never met him).

I haven't been able to find any records on George or any for my grandfather Jimmie before 1951. If you have any leads or could help me out in anyway possible, it would be greatly appreciated.

Where could she be buried

I am attempting to find out where my Great Grandmother may be buried. She died in Clarke, Alabama, 1907 - 1910. Any idea of African American Cemeteries or cemeteries that buried African American during the early 20th century in Clarke Alabama. I do not have a death certificate for her. Her name would have been Elizabeth or Betsy Matherson.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Well hello that is my tree. You are right she was not on the census and we searched long and hard before we prooved she was also their daughter.I have on my tree where they finally decided to sell Johns land and there she was Mary Hawkins and her husband Tom.We knew that was her father because we had the death cert that said so.Her mothers name was not on there. We found out mothers name was Martha and her father was the one who was living with them on the 1870 census.I live in Ohio some came to Ohio and the rest stayed there in Leighton Alabama.Yes he stole her when she was around 12 years old. Ole Tom was a rascal.I still cannot find a marriage license for them after looking all of these years. She also had a son named Freeman i think Herman is a slip of the pen.

Feel ya! Unfortunately, I'm not related or even connected to Alabama! I've reviewed your tree and tried to research from info you've found. If I am on the right path, you descend from Mary Napier/Tom Hawkins? I had a problem with Mary's 1888-birth yet absent from her parents' 1900 household! A twelve-year-old female? They married 'young' in early America but that was a 'stretch'. Believe her actual birth closer to Apr 1881? That's based on 1900 AL-Franklin-Russellville-District 0019-Image 13 of Thomas Hawkins(25) and "Marry"(19). When I began research, 1997, I refused to wait on fate and went knocking on doors. Got some resistance and puzzled looks but eventually they came around! Then, no one else was researching ancestry. An older cousin had made progress ten-years earlier but was inactive in 1997. I'm still on the hunt! Confirm kids of Tom/Mary: Thomas Jr, Cleveland, Stonewall J, Nancy, Alice, Herman, Annie May, Willie Lee, Robert, Beulah, and John. Found death listings in Ohio so I'm guessing that's where your family relocated?

Hi Stephan it,s been a while. I did find out that John Townsend was my Ggrandmothers father but couldn't find out anything else about him.I know he was born in Virginia but wound up in Alabama.I see where he sighned the voter registration when he came to Madison County Alabama.I still don't know his kin.I want to know when and what part of Alabama his daughter was born in. She was born in 1847.I cannot find a death cert.for John Napier or his wife although John died in 1914 which was supposed to be after they started recording death dates. They were supposed to start in 1908.I see a lot of John Townsends in Alabama but have no idea of which one may be kin to my Townsend. He was born in 1820.My new e-mail no. is awilliams477@yohoo.com

Hi: There is a connection between your family and mine. Mary Byers is the daughter of my greatgrand parents Albert and Harriet Byers. There was another daughter Maggie and several other siblings, but Mary and Maggie might have been the mother of William who was a Mulatto born in 1878 Ashville. They are in the 1880 census. Albert born 1820 SC, and Harriet born 1846 Alabama. Her family was from Tenn, not sure if that is where they were born, still looking for that information. It seems that William just disappeared after 1880 at the age of 2. There is nothing more mentioned of him. I believe that the family moved to Gadsden. I hope this helped. There is a Mr. Turner who lives in Gadsden, Flatwood, who is a family historian, he was born a Byers, his parents married and he became a Turner. Do not remember his first name. He does not live too far from where I lived as a child. Again, hope this helped.

warm regards.

BISHOP

BISHOP / BULLOCK / McCARLEY; Marion Co AL, USA; c.-1800-1998

I know very little.....have my great-grandfather's (Dillard G. Bishop)marriage license to Margrett L. McCarley on 6 Nov 1895....witnessed by J. T. Harris, T. R. H.
Bishop and James M. Bishop; in Marion County Alabama. Judge of probate...Jason P. Ford.

Dillard and Margrett had at least one son, my grandfather William S. Bishop b.7 March 1901 d. 22 July 1973; married Shellie Belle Bullock 14 Oct. 1921 in Marion
County, AL.

Questions....Who are T. R. H. Bishop and James M. Bishop?? Were they brothers and what relationship were they to Dillard?? The T. R. could be the initials for
"The Reverend" H. Bishop. On 2 Oct 1897 a James M. Bishop married Sarah Boxtal in Marion County, Alabama. Is this the same James M. Bishop, that witnessed
the marriage of Dillard and Margrett??

I believe that James and Dillard were father and son, or maybe brothers. James was said to have been a Civil War Vet and lived in Bibb Co. AL. He (or they) may
have moved to Marion Co., AL after the war.

Can anyone confirm or add anything more..(mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, brothers or sisters)..for any of the above named individuals? Anything on any of the
named Bishops could really break through this "genealogy wall" I'm up
against.

Thanks!

You know, I didn't even glance at the name of the poster when I replied to this message. You are right, Anna, we did connect a number of years ago trying to determine if we shared a connection. I know exactly what you mean about wanting to find the kin. Perhaps the ancestors will finally decide to let us in on some secrets!

Hi,

I don't have connections to this particular Napier line, but I do have a Napier of color line who was from Tennessee. Just wanted to let you know that I understand where you are coming from as I've had a difficult time with my Napier line as well...

Best wishes with your line.
