Surnames: Hall, D'avy
My wife's roots are Cajun, but one name on her grandmothers side is confusing me. D'avy seems to be an almost impossible name to track. I did find her GGMother, Rachel Hall and GGFather, Leo Joseph D'avy buried in the Lafayette Protestant Cemetery. I cannot find one spelling of D'avy on any genealogy site. Is there another spelling for this name?

No I do not have access to Hebert Southwest Books or CD. You can send any information to ken@medievalrealm.net I have high speed access so size is not an issue and I run my own email server.

Thank you. Finding D'avy has been hard and I appreciate your help.

Hi, there! It's interesting that this is my first time trying to see what is listed under my family's maiden name, D'Avy, and I find someone who is trying to find out more about us, too.

I am Mary Catherine D'Avy Harawi, and I love in Zahle, Lebanon, having married a Lebanese man 28 years ago. I lived all of my life prior to my marriage in Opelousas, Louisiana. My father is Clayton Joseph D'Avy and his father was Yves D'Avy from Lafayette, Louisiana originally.

My uncle, Sylvan D'Avy, lives in Opelousas, Louisiana and has done a good bit of research on the D'Avy ancestry. I have promised to help him to locate as much information as I can about the family. He is computer "illiterate", so I can't correspond with him very easily from here in Lebanon. However, he has floppy disks with much of the material compiled by a distant relative. There is a lot there, but I don't have a copy with me.

The family is believed to have originated in Nantes, France, but before that there is some material that suggests that there may have been a family in Italy by the name of d'Avi, and that they split apart, with part of them going to live in France, and the origianl D'Avi's staying in Italy. I am going to try to find out about that.

The latest information I have is that there are records from the 1520's from "Ancestors of Olivier, Sebastien and Julie Lefebvre" in the 17th generation, the name Guillaume d'Avy shows up. He is said to be "lord of Perthuis" in these records which are in French. There is more in the printed version with me, but I won't continue with it here. If you care to stay in contact with me, I will be happy to provide you with whatever I find.

As I said, I am new to the search, so I can't help a lot until I get more involved. I find it fascinating.

Hoping to hear from you.

Do you have any info on your D'avy line marrying into a Mixon line? I have an Eleanor Mary D'avy marrying Riley Mixon. Her parents were Yves D'avy and Felicia Roy.

Hi,

I believe your uncle, Sylvan d'Avy, is the husband of my ex-wife's aunt, Barbara ("Bobbie") Richard d'Avy. I don't have much on that side of the family, but would like to trade information if you're interested.

cheers,

The name you are looking for is Walter Guillet, wife Hazel D'avy, married in 1932. Hazel had two children in a previous marriage to Henry Briggs Jr. The children were Jackie Mae Briggs & Authur Francis Briggs. They were adopted by Authur D'avy and took the name D'Avy. Jackie Mae lived in Texas and husband was a lifer in the Air Force. Authur lived in Opelousas until his death. He worked at the Opelousas City Water Plant. I am the Son of Walter Guillet (allen james guillet born 1948 in Opelousas, La. I have some research notes if you need additional info.
