Hi,

I'm new at this and was wondering if anyone had any information at all on the Monsch family name. I'm especially interested in any information on Friedrich or Anton Monsch. Friedrich was a German revolutionary in the Offenburg area right around 1845. This got him into trouble and he left, becoming a refugee in Gerstheim, then in Strassberg, France in 1849. His brother, Anton, was my gr. gr. gr. grandfather, and it was said that he had also gone to France (possibly around this same time period), then came to the USA. Any information at all on the Monsch family would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Melody

Melody, I live in Offenburg and I am searching for the emigrants in that time, you speak about your Monsch.

What kind of information do you search? Genealogy? Stories?
in our website
www.emigration-offenburg.de

Hi Gaby!

I was glad to get your response! I am looking for any type of information I can get, such as stories, records, etc. Anything! I'm also very interested in any information at all about their revolutionary activities. I checked at the website you gave me, and then checked some of my records against this info. My ancestor, Anton Monsch, did immigrate in 1935. Some of my records have him listed as Josef Anton, so I'm sure it's the same person. However, he came to the USA from Le Havre, France. According to some family members, he went to France and lived for at least awhile before coming to the USA. I am wondering why he went to France, although that would probably be very hard to find any info.about. Perhaps he was also into revolutionary activities. The other names on your website are also relatives and I have a small amount of info. on them--such as the ships they left on. I will go through everything I have on all of them in the next 2-3 days and let you know what I've got, if you would like.Again, thanks for your response.

The revolution was in 1848. Georg Monsch did not emigrate to Amerika.
Your ancestors are no revolutioners, but the same family.

Sorry wrong!!

Sorry - there was something wrong with my dates.
Georg was the sun from Friedrich. Friedrich was the revolutioner - you are right - he died in Offenburg.
His brother - your ancestor - emigrated to Amerika. This must have been in 1847. The revolution was 1848 - littlebit later.

I see that I am about 8 years behind your query, but hope that this will get to you.

My grandmother, Henrietta Laverne Monsch, was adopted by Henry Monsch and Elizabeth Bloch Monsch in 1898 in St. Paul, MN. Both parents were born in Louisville, KY, where there was a large German community beginning in the early 19th century.

Both the Bloch and Monsch family were said to be from Alsace-Lorraine, and to have immigrated to the US because the men did not want to fight in Napoleon's army. These families were Catholic. Hope this helps.

Hello Melody; have been trying to find you for several years.
My wife's mother was Mary Monsch; her GGG grandfather was Anton Monsch also. I wanted to contact you to find out if you have found any new info about Anton or either of his wifes.
Please contact me if you ever find this message.
thank you
