Butchers' Arms, Duke of Edinboro' Greyhound Inn, Suffolk, England, UK. 1850 to 1920ish

Surnames: Boggis
Records show the occupation of innkeeping in the Boggis family. I am curious to know if anyone has any information regarding the inns/pubs listed or indeed if they are still in existence.

John Boggis is shown on the 1881 census to be innkeeper of Butchers Arms Inn, Cemetery Road, Bury St Edmunds; 1891 records show him as innkeeper at the ‘Duke of Edinboro’ (as spelt on the handwritten census form), Butter Market, in the civil Parish of St James; 1901 census records have him working, at the age of 56, as a publican of the Greyhound Inn, Wickambrook, where his daughter Beatrice worked as a barmaid.

Any information will be very much appreciated,
thank you for looking, regards Kayakingkat.

www.suffolkcamra.co.uk gives the following details(and photographs)

Butchers Arms opened 1839 closed 1991

Duke of Edinburgh opened pre 1875, closed 1912 (only a drawing of this one!)

Greyhound at Wickhambrook - the site gives a list of landlords from 1869, and shows John Boggis as the landlord in 1900.

As far as I know the Butchers Arms is now a private dwelling and the street is now King's Road.
The Duke Of Edinboro is long gone. The Boggis family were also Fish Mongers and were well known in the town. I was born in Bury St Edmunds in 1930.
best wishes
