mahard@jps.netIs anyone out there interested in starting up a surname study using DNA? FamilyTreeDNA.com has a service that tests the Y-chromosome, which can show kinship and estimate earliest common ancestry. As the test is for the Y-chromosome it is only available to men with the last name of Mahar/Maher/Meagher. Mapping the Meagher Y-chorosome could potentially be a huge help to researchers, though we probably need a lot of participants.
My family is said to have come from County Queens. My ancestor Thomas Mahar/Meagher emigrated about 1852 to Oswego, New York.
